This seems harsh especially given wall street guys just had to pay fines.

He wasn't convicted of that though.

And, also, the agents who staged the murder of the employee was found to have stolen bitcoin and tried to extort Ulbricht

Ross did not buy or sell any drugs. He just created a means for others to do so that eliminated the element of violence.

We should arrest the people who make cars and firearms, they surely helped commit more crimes than Silk Road.

I read his journal, and he did grow and sell mushrooms to get the site started. In Bastrop Tx of all places lol.

An acquaintance of mine developed an upper problem through the Silk Road, though he would have probably found them elsewhere. He was intolerable when he discovered it. Not only was he jacked up on weird pills I've never heard of, he would make it a point to tell everyone about the glory of the Silk Road. I don't know enough about this guy to determine whether or not he deserves life. The exchanges regarding murder-for-hire are pretty damning, despite the fact that someone else approached him first about it.

As far as Fourth Amendment issues, I don't think there are any. How can he assert Fourth Amendment protection when he denies ownership of the server? You can't have an expectation of privacy of something you don't own. Regardless, the server was hosted in Iceland and he used a hosting company. There are lots of reasons he shouldn't have 4th Amendment protection.

The punishment may be excessive but he was undeniably guilty.

And Bin Laden didn't blow up the World Trade Center. He just created the means for others to do so.

The whole war on drugs is stupid. If you decriminalized the whole thing and just made people pay fines it probably would kill the drug industry.

Not certain ones who can't maintain a basic logic consistency.

As much as Ross Ulbricht created the internet.

If the government wants to get you
They will use every law to bar your path . . . .and will get you
If the government wants to let you go
They will bend every law out of your path . . . .and will let you go

    Period.
They stretched to get a group of teachers on a Rico case
but Did everything possible to let the bankers go . . . .

Privilege and payments are the corruption of our system
Personal biases and beliefs are enforce from the micro level to the macro level

    They wanted this guy
They were going to get him
    Did not matter how . . ..

Way too harsh. They are really going nuts on hackers or any sort of internet based crime. Unless it involves Wall Street of course.
