I have searched but cannot find exactly how Daryl builds these teams? Is there one overlying sabermatric that is a "go to" on which to make decisions to build the team? Example, does he have something he went to when deciding on signing josh smith? Sorry if this has been discussed. Just a fan for years and think we r the most fun team year around to root for. Got Rockets!
But isn't sabermatrics still based on how you USE them? Meaning everyone could use the statistical guidelines differently.? Not being rude, just curious of thoughts. Thanks!
My guess is that the "one overlying sabermatric that is a "go to" on which to make decisions" would be something along the lines of overall positive effect on team compared to price of contract. Ariza this year was a perfect Morey player: higher-than-average overall effectiveness with lower-than-average contract. Coincidentally, that's among the things that made Morey decide not to match the Mavs' offer for Parsons. Of course, hundreds of other metrics would be used to determine a player's overall positive effect on the team, and I'm sure Morey and staff have those analyzed down to ridiculous levels. Who's the most clutch player in the final 30 seconds of the first half when we're down by double digits on the road on the second half of a back to back? That level of drill-down.
