I hope Morey is approaching this with a starting from scratch mentality Cannot rest on his laurels but keep on working
By the reasoning of many in this thread 29 teams suck every year and should be blown up. We got blown out and it was embarrassing but it was by the consensus best team in basketball. This hurts our pride but there's no shame in being second best in the West. Imagine how much better we might have been this year if we'd been healthy all year long like the Warriors were. And think about what we accomplished though we were not. This team is very close. We're in the WCF and we barely even have a point guard. It's amazing that just as the rest of the league is figuring that out the team's own fans have forgotten it. I understand though. That was a historically tough loss.
The Warriors wantbhave this luck (health) in season to come. They are very good but have also played together all year long with no major injury to anyone on their team. They are having one of those seasons for the ages it seems, but by no means are they about to win 67+ every year and dominate like the Bulls for 6 straight. I mean seriously ppl lebron, KD and even harden still play in the NBA. Steph curry is very very good but Jeesh he's not MJ. Rocksts need to find harden that klay Thompson kyrie Irving type player. I know it seems far fetched now but this is why morey wants that 3rd star. We need someone like dame lilard to Come aboard. He would be perfect for harden, a legit offensive player but better suited for the 2nd role in offense. Imagine swinging the ball across court and lillard is their to hit a 3 or take it to the hoop. This guy was shooting 3s like curry at the beginning of the year.
Very close to what? Well, if you want to have good regular season standings, maybe. But I thought our goal was to contend for a championship. And this team is so bipolar, we're still very far from reaching that goal. Smackdowns from the Clips and Warriors. Games in which the team played clueless. No other adjustments aside from more Harden streetball and a disastrous switching defense. You still call that close? How long can Harden last with all the load we are asking him to carry? Can we have one full year of elite Dwight? That's why I am nervous about this team. We are farther than we think.
Here come the Morey hate threads. There was no one more disappointed about how this offseason turned out than me. I was devistated that we didn't get our 3rd star, and on top of that, we lost Parsons for nothing; probably our best non-harden asset. Oh and Joey Dorsey sucks. In fact, I was so disgusted, I basically didn't watch the first quarter of the season. I certainly didnt think we were contenders. But somethings got better: We developed great team chemistry despite losing Parsons Harden had his best year We overcame injuries DMO took the next step Ariza panned out Morey picked up Smoove and Brew and they played big Jones came back and played well and we unearthed a diamond in Capela Now I still didn't think we we're legit contenders until we beat the Clips, but that series proved we are very close. The Warriors series is showing us who the next western dynasty will be. Morey will retool this offseason and we'll be better next year; we've been steadily improving since the end of the Yao Mac era. I'm proud of this product. Im sticking with Morey.
Logic by some posters is so flawed. GM takes a non-playoff team with no superstar, no top 10 draft picks, and no all-stars and... - in 1 season turns them into a playoff team with the best shooting guard in the league - In 2 seasons turns them into a 50+ team with the best shooting guard and the best center in the league. - in 3 seasons turns them into a 56 win team, Division Champs (in toughest division in the history of the NBA) & Western Conference Finalists And there are some people that don't think he knows what he is doing? In what universe is that type of turnaround not seen as a monumental success? How many other teams have had that type of success with no high draft picks and no all-stars to start with?
Morey sticking with McHale's coaching will define his GM career. This team was thoroughly outcoached and unprepared. That's why when stymied, they quit trying. No one on the sidelines is giving them any new pointers on how to play.
This. He can't go into this offseason gambling on "projects" or European players. Ty Lawson should be our main priority
Right with you bats.. People also underestimate the value of Beverley. The injuries of DMo and Beverley or haunting tge team right now. T_Man
We desperately need to give Harden help. We literally have zero people outside of him that can consistently put the ball in the basket. Dwight isn't even good at that. But we've been saying this since last summer.
Morey has been good, but now he needs to follow through on his statistical dehumanised approach and: A) fire McHale B) not overpay for any of the following players: Beverley, Jones, Jason Terry, Josh Smith or Brewer C) go hard after a PG and starting PF D) go hard after light out shooters, wings who can create and shoot and a veteran wing defensive specialist (not one who gambles like Brewer). E) trade anyone but Harden, Howard or Ariza if we can get a Lawson or anybody of that caliber
How ironic that GSW is playing Moreyball better than Morey's team! hahahahaha Morey has a lot of work to do to drastically improve this roster. Sure, we're good in the regular season but couldn't get much headway vs the true contenders.
not really. houston isn't too far off at all. if the only team they have to worry about now is gs then i'd say houston is definitely on the right track.
So many people on this board are so pathetic. Folks lives must just be full of disappointment after disappointment. Morey has taken the team from perpetual 9th place finishers in the West with a 0.5% chance of winning the lottery every year to a team that made it to the Western Conference Finals in 3 years. I think he and the Rockets organization have done a damn fine job.
