Surely we can trade Brewer if Durant would have interest in signing here though. Just like Golden State did when they signed Iguodala. Doesn't make sense to just dump a guy who helped lead us to the Conference Finals on the slight chance Durant decides to team up with Harden. Brewer would be nice insurance in case that doesn't happen.
The Rockets can always trade Ariza and/or Brewer if necessary should Durant be interested in signing here. You don't let Brewer walk this summer just to maintain "flexibility" to sign a guy who may never even leave OKC(and if he does, there's no guarantee this is his #1 preferred destination). If there's one lesson Morey better have learned after last summer's whiffs and this season's acquisitions, it's that depth and defense are key to winning in the playoffs. If the comeback against the Clippers(especially Game 6) didn't teach him that, then he'll never get it.
How did the buyout situation change from a month ago? You said at that time he was "Penciled In" as the Rockets starter? I know Llull is looking at a hefty buyout that he has to absorb a good part of, but what changed in recent weeks? Thanks.
Brewer is the most likely of him and Smith to get a 4-year offer for perhaps a little more money than we want to pay. Morey is not going to clog the cap with a bloated Brewer contract that cuts into our max salary cap space for 2016. So if somebody offers Brewer 4/40 or even 3/30 he's most likely gone. I can see Morey possibly offering Brewer as much as 2/30 with the second season being non-guaranteed w/team option so he can use him as trade bait or at the very least get Brwer interested in a minimum salary deal for 2016 with the idea of paying him big again in 2017. But it's doubtful Brewer would go for that if some team offers him a big money 3 or 4 year deal.
Well the Brew news sucks I thought he was for sure coming back. We need his offense hes the only other guy who can put the ball on the floor
He just loves it where he is and doesn't really care to come here... Things could change, but he is happy in Spain now.
Maybe the rockets should be looking to add a witch doctor and a priest. We need some good voodoo over here. The amount if player games lost due to injury is just nuts. Put a spy cam in the Warriors camp. How the hell they have trotted through this year virtually unscathed is unreal. Curry - 80 games Thompson - 77 games green - 79 games Bogut - 67 games (only somewhat significant time) Barnes - 82 games Iggy - 77 games Speights - 76 games (granted he is out at the moment cry me a river) That is not a lot of lost games. Pretty charmed life. So lets get our harry potter wand or prayer rug or whatever is needed.
As much as I want Brewer back, if someone out there offers him 10 mil a year, they can have him. He's not worth anywhere close to that much.
I'm 100% for drafting a PG. big shocker... Just hoping that he'll be someone who can contribute from day one, and that he'll get that opportunity.
I really think the rox would be wise to give up on this situation. If he is happy what on earth could change that would make him unhappy enough to come to waters untested? I would think a TRUE competitor would jump at the chance to go where the competition is the best. If he is waffling this much. Is this someone we want?
Not to mention the instant dose of adrenalin when the team seems to be stuck in the mud. Morey seems to have no problem finding plug and play guys, but I'm hoping they bring Brewer back.
Ok... so I'm operating off of internet numbers here that I can see which aren't solid but let me take a look and see what Sergio's financial situation looks like- -So Llull's buyout is 4.5 million based on what I see (yes that's huge but just hold on). -The Rockets can pay 600K. So 3.9 is what he has to pay out of pocket up front. -His current salary pays him 1.2 Mil Euros a year based on what I can see. Convert that to the dollar and that's like 1.4./1.5 million. -If the Rockets resign Brewer/Smith and are operating over the cap and below the apron, they should have 5.3 million to offer for the MLE. -So just in year 1. Sergio's real earnings will be around 1.4 million dollars after the buyout situation which is pretty much exactly what he will be making in total earnings in Europe. ........ The deal breaker would look to be guaranteed money at the MLE in year 2. If Sergio really is locked in at that Euro salary until 2019 then it makes all the sense in the world to essentially "break even" this year, and make it up next year when he has guaranteed $ 3X what he would be making over in Europe. So if my numbers are wrong here please let me know, but based on what I can see, if the Rockets are offering the full MLE, and a guaranteed 2nd year, there is no way in hell I pass that up if I'm Sergio unless the Spanish booty is just too good to pass up.
Agreed. It's not like Llull is our only option at PG. Apparently the Rockets feel the same way now if they're planning to use the NOP pick to address that position. Honestly, we don't need some sort of stud in the backcourt. Just someone who can create his own shot, play respectable defense, and hit open 3's. Basically a Kenny Smith type.
Llull doesn't sound too promising, but the smith thing is awesome. I would expect morey to target lawson or another pg using papa the pick and jones. We can even wait until after the draft, (assuming we take a pg) and deal that pg as the replacement for lawson. Most mocks have them taking winslow or another forward, so getting a good young pg would be a must.
Sure. But Cyberx said a month ago he's penciled in as the starter and reports from Euro media was looking positive following Morey's trip to Europe to meet with him, Gentile, and others. -Then this morning the buyout was too large. -Now its the lifestyle and being happy in Spain? Look, I understand if he's too much for the Rockets to bring over, and I understand that Sergio is probably ECSTATIC about playing for Real Madrid and finally winning a title. However, I just want to point out that there is a really good chance that non of us have any idea what we are talking about. July 1st is more than a month away. The Rockets are still in the playoffs. If the guy WANTS to come to the NBA at any point in his career, I'm just pointing out that if the Rockets are offering the full MLE IN JULY, he's probably never going to have a better opportunity to come over, and I'm not willing to close the door just yet until we see what happens with Brewer/Smith/KJ/Bev, and see how Morey's talks go with him at that point.
