Wasn't he the guy who was very highly thought of coming out of HS but went to college instead, and after college his stock wasn't as high so we got him in the late rounds? Remember hearing a story about a guy with a lot of upside that just didn't put it together in college and thought this might be him?

If he can stick at 3rd, his Fld% has been terrible at .924. He boots a lot, and doesn't have Donaldson like range. Odds are he will need to move to 1B where competition is stiffer.

If nothing else, his continued production does make him yet another trade chip for Luhnow.

As best I can tell (B-Ref, BA, Baseball Cube) he wasn't drafted out of HS, wasn't drafted as a college Jr, 33rd round as a Sr. He'd be a great story if he can keep it up.

There was a Baseball Prospectus article that TimPoopura referred to that mentioned White a couple of weeks ago.

The article was written by an agent who represents minor leaguers who were late-round draft picks and how he managed to meet them, and is only available to BP subscribers. But, here's the link to it.

Here's the portion that mentions White:

Quad Cities just keeps rolling along. After a 6-5 win against Cedar Rapids, they're 29-8, which is the best record in all of baseball.

After a 3-4 day with a double and 2 RBI, Jake Nottingham is now slashing .303/.373/.566 with 6 homers and 24 RBI. The .566 slugging percentage leads the Midwest League. His 6 homers is tied for 2nd, while 24 RBI is good for 4th.

    QC has 3 in the top 10 in slugging, with Nottingham (1st, .566), D.J. Fisher (3rd, .532), and Mott Hyde (t-8th, .470).

Speaking of Hyde, he leads the River Bandits in hits with 38; 14 of them have been doubles, which leads the Midwest League. His .330 average is 6th, so he's in the top 10 in all 3 slash categories. Hyde is also tied for 2nd with 26 runs scored.

The Bandits also have 3 in the top 10 in terms of on-base percentage: Jamie Ritchie leads the league at .443. Hyde is 7th at .415, and Fisher's .394 clip is 9th.

    OPS-wise, Nottingham's .938 is tied for 2nd. Fisher is 4th at .925. Hyde's .884 is 6th, and Ritchie is 10th at .860.

Exciting that we are about to add a bunch of talent to an already stacked farm system. Lunhow better get ready to move some talent. Can't have another Delino.

Have you been paying attention to what he's doing for Dallas as a 22-yo rookie?

I've been really impressed, he was a lot more ready than I, and most others, gave him credit for.

I think he was lamenting losing him in the draft. In other words trade some of these guys.

What was your mea culpa the other day about not being sober when posting? Yeah, that applies.

What? Lay off me a moment... I just woke up. Don't have my bearings about me just yet...

I think we should all throw our Jump to Conclusions mats into the trash. Let's do it together.

Can't believe we didn't protect Delino. getting rid of Parades is looking like a big mistake too, always saw the potential. It happens though..

Can't get everything right. Honestly, our OF depth is pretty stacked anyways it is tough to envision a scenario where DDJ would have gotten on the field anytime soon.

Eh... Parades had his chance here two for three different seasons. Delino never got to have a major league at bat for us, and I can understand being frustrated losing him in the 5er (especially when you have Presley on your 40). Parades, though, seemed like another Brett Wallace: good AAA numbers but struggling to put it together, though younger, in the majors. I can sleep with losing him and JD for the simple reason that they got PT and didn't make the best of it in the long run.

That being said, I find it easy to pull for JD and Parades at their new clubs, but I still feel bitter losing DeShields from time to time.

He has 60 at bats this season.... small sample size. He is playing the OF and DH exclusively, he would not get any playing time in Houston.

Lets wait and see what happens.

Betting Luhnow likes him some OBP and OPS.

IIRC DDJ started last year red hot, but slumped to the finish line.

Also Carlos Perez, the C we gave up WITH Tropeana to the Angels is now on the Angels roster starting at C...he's started pretty good.

the Hank Conger trade is still a head scratcher. We gave up some pretty good chips for a backup C when we have/had some good ones in our farm system, not to mention Corporan was already on the roster.

Having said that, the Astros are off to their best start so can't really argue with the end result.

What is amazing is how much talent we have in AAA--AA-A ball...and we are seeing more positions at the big league level filled up:

Other than rounding out the rotation via trades, our position players are pretty set if you include a healthy Lowrie; not much to upgrade, although leashes on the under-performing big bats (Carter for e.g.) will tighten if the Astros start to drop some games.

So the front office has to be looking to package bunch of players I'd assume for some quality pitching...otherwise we'll continue to lose guys in the Rule V
