Hey, I'm celebrating the win too. But I think this win increases the chances Smith stays, and its a valid question to ask. I'm all in for the championship run this season, but I want it to be more then a one season run. The fact that this team has played so well despite facing numerous big challenges has me super excited for the future, so I don't think its that big of a deal to talk about it.

Sorry I didn't add another celebration thread to the bajillion ones already on the front page

You are mistaken. That is how it works when a player is claimed from waivers. However, Josh Smith wasn't claimed off of waivers. He cleared waivers and the Rockets signed him as a free agent. The money the Rockets paid him was ON TOP of what the Pistons paid him. And the money he will make next season will also be on top of what the Pistons owe him.

Cyber said the Rockets weren't planning on it, but 9.5 times out of 10 we loose that Clippers series without him.

We'd be taking a hit letting him walk for nothing. Yes Motie is coming back, but I say we keep the bunch together. If minutes become tight, we can always trade one of Motie/Jones/Smith or possibly Caplea for the highest bid to open up playing time down low.

Everyone will hate him me once again but I don't see Josh Smith remaining. The better he plays the more his next contract will be.

Not all of what he gets paid. Only 50% (over the min....which I just yesterday according to Aleron).

Josh will get more money, but at this point he might not be all about money. Houston is the only place where, when he is on the floor, he can run the offense, lead the break and launch 3s.

Huh? Why? We can't talk about the future of the team? Chill out. It is a worthy discussion.

Was going to wait until after the playoffs to spill some beans, but...

...nope, I'll wait till after the playoffs.

Let's just say that Dubious on page 1 of this thread is very close to being in the money.

I would think we could offer the MLE to Llull, and then go over the cap to resign Brewer and Smith and maybe Bev.

It just depends on if Morey wants to go depth and chemistry versus third star chasing ala LMA.

    Llull/NJ
    Harden/Terry
    Ariza/Brewer
    Dmo/Jones/Smith
    Howard/Capela/Dorsey

That's a better squad than is playing today and add in a rookie with the Pels pick. Problem is you've got 5 bigs deserving of minutes and Jones and DMo will be looking for paydays. Some way some how you got to package some depth or you will have some unhappy players. If Llull does not come over I'd suggest Dmo/Jones, Papa, and something for Lawson.

In summation I believe Smith stays for a song and DMo and or Jones are definitely on the way out.

Can't you see how much he's ruining our team chemistry?

I personally think Smith qualifies as a star. Highly underrated player.

I like the idea of continuing to fortify our team. I wouldn't at all mind an upgrade at Lowry, but I don't think we need a 3rd star and I like the team where were at. I also LOVE the idea of bringing in under-achieving 'faux' stars like Josh Smith and bringing them in off the bench. Makes your team that much more scary.

    I think so...

Remember he is still getting $26 million from the Pistons deferred over 5 years. Money might not be his main objective at this point in his career. Do you guys remember when he was jumping up and down as we were closing the Mavericks. You can see his excitement. Most people that make the NBA and especially those that excel in the NBA and very very competitive and I think as some point most simply want the chance to compete.

All that being said, I hope we sign him as he has been a great fit.
