That was a dutch group called: 2 Unlimited the song was called: Get ready for this <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/M5jhK8pLmlI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/M5jhK8pLmlI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> They were unbelievable popular in the 90's. However i do not know if it ever was a intro song of the rockets.
Well, I DO have the 94 game 7 championship on tape... and it WAS the Allan Parson's project. They actually started playing it at game 7 of the western semi-finals (the Suns). I remember vividly because I was at that game... wondering why the hell they'd copy the Bulls/Suns this late in the season (of course, it was so damn loud, everybody in the building could hardly hear the music AND the PA announcer). I know they had the rap type song during the season... but I guarantee you it changed during the playoffs (probably to fit the national stereotype media, since they actually showed the starting lineups back in the day). I'm sure R2K posted the game 7 of the 94 finals to his video collection... go watch it. There's a 1 minuted "laser" show with some techno music, and then they go straight into the allan parsons project.
Completely wrong man... they didn't even start turing out the lights till the 93-94 season (once nearly every team started doing it). Once again... I was at games 3, 4, and 6 of the Seattle 92-93 series... and they had the lights on during the entire starting lineup.
Also, how would it have been possible to have a song titled "clutch city" during the 94 champioship season, when the entire monicker of clutch city didn't even come about till after the western conf. semi-finals of that year?!? They did have the "whoomp there it is" song that mad max is referring to, but I believe they used the regular lyrics, and changed them the following season to make "clutch city" (a lot of stuff only happened AFTER they won the championship... Houston fans were waaaay too on-edge to jinx anything). Either way... it was allan parsons project from game 7 of the suns series, onwards (till the first game of the 94-95 season... banner night vs. the Nets).
Anyone know where I might find the capella song to use on myspace? I'm going with a Rockets theme now. The Texans are done.
Oh my goodness... Both of those songs (Capella and 2Unlimited) stir something in me. So many memories from the Summit/Compaq. There are several songs that, for my wife and I, are inseparable from the Rockets and our time in Houston. "One way or another" by Blondie is another.
I say we should now take a turn towards the way dramatic, "we take ourselves entirely too seriously," type intro and game music. Lots of Rob Dougan and Hans Zimmer. That stuff always sells well on TV.
I remember back in the early to mid 80s the theme music was "Rockit". I found a sample of it on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7dAxvj2mlU I'll never forget riding the Metro to the Summit all the way from Sharpstown and hearing this music with Hakeem getting ready to tip off.
It's on Amazon. I put it over the game 6 highlights here starts at 3:02: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/S0dOHgDunlY?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen t=3m2s></iframe>
