Just stopping in to say... fouling Jordan at the end of the 1st half. I liked the idea. It backfired but I liked it in theory.
I actually thought it was the perfect time to it i was applauding... but two things he didnt wrong in that sequence 1. put howard back in, should have went with a lineup of jones, brewer, ariza, terry, harden 2. He stopped fouling DJ...he missed his next two free throws very badly, Just because he made 4-4 doesn't mean u stop, he's still shooting fts at a 50% clip have to continue trusting your judgment and coaches but he went back on the strategy too quickly and they clicked offensively from 1:30 till the end But i give him all the credit in the world, no1 would have kept harden in the bench and he did you gotta admire that, hopefully he saw the lineup of brew, ariza, smith, howard together can cause serious damage game 7 i want to see those 4 on the floor together a lot...great win the best I've ever witnessed not including finals, but job isn't done
Lots of criticism on McHale here (except today ), mostly falling on his lack of in-game adjustments. I guess he is learning from experience as much as his players. This is a quote from a ClipsNation's user: I gotta say I couldn’t be more impressed with the coaching job Kevin McKale did in the 2nd half. Didn’t panic, benched his best player when it was obvious he was killing their offense, switched Howard onto Blake at the right time, decided to pack the paint and concede jumpers to anyone not named Chris Paul, everything came up roses for McKale, he definitely has the pulse of his team and how to get the most out of them because there is no way this series should be going 7 with matchup problems Houston has against the Clippers.
Mchale was basically saying the clippers had the momentum and it came and went and now we have the momentum at the right time
I give him credit for riding the most athletic team to a victory. Those players on the floor had the most experience in the NBA and proved it by coming back. To be honest, I couldn't watch the game live. I taped it and watched early this morning. So so so proud of when they could've given up. My only concern with McFail is that I wish he would say something intelligent instead of let's have fun and play with some energy. What play did you diagram to get us a bucket out of the time out. Any defensive adjustments, like force Paul to his left, he never finishes with his left hand, he usually hesistates and shoots a jumper or tries to go back right. If JB came up with the idea to keep him on the left side of the floor where he is incomfortable, I'm all for it. There team is a bunch of go right players, if you force them to their left hands they become ineffective.
Both coaches tried the hack-a strategy and both times it failed massively. Hope this means we won't see any of it in Game 7
Both tried it, both failed, one gets called an idiot and the other gets praised as a great coach. Hmmmmmm
http://www.foxsports.com/nba/story/...y-fouling-deandre-jordan-was-a-mistake-051515 well, i would have been furious with this decision had he lost the game, but at least he admits it was a stupid mistake.
Even if Jordan had missed, it killed our momentum and the game likely would be tied instead of us building on a 4 point lead.
Even with the great comeback last night, Mchale had Smoove running the point for a good amount of time. That was a pretty dumb move especially under 2 mins. The clippers were stupid not to realize but could have easily fouled the ball and had him shooting free throws to get back into the game.
Smoove running the point was part of the comeback. Under 2 minutes... sure you might change it up. But then he was hitting 1/2 and the one time McHale tried to get Harden in the game, he played 0 seconds because of the loose ball foul on the free throw attempt. BTW, that's an interesting rule/non-rule. So they don't want intentional fouling in the last two minutes, but there is the loose ball rebound loophole? And I say loophole because the game was stopped. If it was a FT miss, and they very aggressively went for the offensive board and fouled Dwight in the process, that's one thing, but the ball wasn't even in play yet. weird. Anyway, I suspect after that put him in for nothing move that McHale just said let's not overcomplicate this like I did at the end of the first half. Keep it simple. Stick with what got you there. The Hack-A in the first half was SO SO SO SO SO moronic. It was a stupid stupid mistake, whether Jordan makes the FTs or not. You saw all the reasons it was stupid actually happen. Took the Rockets and Harden out of their rythm. Slowed down the game for a great offensive halfcourt team (not good). Reminded Doc he could hack-a, too. Jordan hits his two. After all that, he didn't stick with it. I know I just complained about it, but IF you're going to do it, the idea is to play %'s. You can't just do it once and then say he made them, time to stop. JJ hit a 3 on the next possession... Doc did take Jordan out at some point, not sure if it was the next possession or what. Also consider McHale PUT IN DWIGHT for some reason. Why? To get fouled and put on the line? The Rockets had a group that was working. All that said... major props to McHale for admitting his mistake, and coming through with decisions in the 4th.
You guys are the garbage left under the seats after the game. Here, b**** on this for a while: http://espn.go.com/blog/houston-roc...ig-decisions-fueled-rockets-stunning-comeback
Credit man - i give him all the credit in the world. i did not think he had that in him and, by God, he did. Howard on Blake, sitting Harden, playing the veterans - maybe this is what he brings that an X's and O's guy can't. He's played on the biggest stage and now, he's learning to coach on the biggest stage. Maybe, as he gets more experience, he'll be a better coach all around. i am confused and happy about it. Let's go Rockets.
You are aware that they cannot show the x and o discussed during a time out. That is why you always have those peptalks shown on tv.
To be fair, oh damn, the poster above answered it. Anyhow, 90% of offensive sets out of timeouts are swing the ball around to set up a low-post option for Dwight/DMo/TJ. I hate that play and don't think it's so successful (without checking the stats). During the 4th of this last game, his playcalls out of timeouts were to set up screens for catch-n-shoot jumpers. That was a nice change from the norm.
Game 7 v. the Clips is not over yet, but I'd just like to say: "F*&k all of you Rockets haters who self-identified in this thread. You have no basketball knowledge AND you suck as fans. Suck all the stuff you yourself said, pieces of anti-Rockets fake-fan garbage."
