I've been supportive of McHale, then really started to turn on him after the hacking in game 4...but he completely redeemed himself in the postgame presser to me when he admitted that it was a mistake to do it last night at the end of the first half. I don't know why but I see a little bit of Rudy T in him, just a players coach to the extreme that guys want to play for.
True. Forgot about Ariza. He played that many minutes in Game 5 as well. But the guys who keyed the comeback were Brewer and Smith and they were fresh in the 4th. Doc rode all of his starters into the ground and you could tell they had no legs under them for those shots.
I may be crazy, but McHale might just be getting better every minute he's out there. I've done my fair share of hating on him, but I'm happy to eat crow after that amazing comeback last night to force game 7.
No it was dumb, you use that strategy when you are down and have nothing else to lose. You don't kill the momentum of the game when you HAVE it, lol. I'm never beyond saying when I'm wrong or giving props to Mchale when he does something great, it's just that he does a lot of little stupid things. But he recognized that Harden was tired and gassed and hurting the offense and defense. When everyone here was calling for his head including me of course, for not playing Harden. He still didn't play him and It took balls and it was a genius move, that is not something I usually use to describe Mchale.
Did anyone ask themselves how many missed shots the Clippers had in 4th? Not like all of them were contested...
A whole helluva lot of them were tho... That defense was stifling in the 4th. As active on that end as I can remember.
It's funny how Mchale will sit Harden before he ever even thinks about sitting Ariza, who also played a ton of minutes. I think our guys were just motivated to win. One reason I criticize Mchale so much is because I feel that we have more talent than most teams in the league aside from GSW, but we don't play like we do. Last night we played like a deeper more talented team.
Incredible guts to do what he did last night in the 4th Qtr. Although not known for his X's and O's, he has still made smart adjustments during the course of this series, and during the course of games. He kept the players from packing it in after the Game 3 and 4 disasters. He admits when he makes a mistake, and he is so candid with the players. A simple "c'mon guys" during a timeout in the critical point of the game got the guys geared up and wanting to win, for themselves, and for him. Maybe I'm still feeling euphoric and sleep deprived, but I love this man.
I think it comes down to the right coach is around the right type of players. it really does. every coach has their respective edge, strategy and personality. all about the combination and chemistry.
On the games we lost during the playoffs, what about OUR missed shots. Are they mostly contested? What about our free throws? Give the coach some damn credit.
And that's why literally no one gives a **** what you have to say about it. But if it makes you feel good about yourself, power to you.

Really...so Pop is a dumb coach? It didn't work...Jordan went 4 for 4 and Howard couldn't even hit the rim. If it had worked, which statistically favored the Rockets, you would just look for something else to criticize McHale for...and that is dumb. Coach said "I thought, let's see if he can make the free throws...he did. Coaches make mistakes." Doesn't make him dumb or clueless like you have said numerous times. His 4th quarter strategy worked to perfection. We loose that game without it. Absolutely great coaching...as good as any you will ever see.
I like that in the post interview he admitted it was a mistake to hack a DJ at the end of the 2nd quarter. He has stones and self awareness, you can't deny that.
Let's see, starting point guard...out, starting power forward...out. Nope they are overachieving...playing against one of the all time greats at PG and arguably the greatest PF in the game today without their starters at those positions. You could hardly have a worse scenario. My God, man...he is winning with JT and Prige in the backcourt....and you say we have more talent on the floor? He is winning with a guy that was cut in mid-season and another that could not get off the bench on a last place team. Ridiculous, just ridiculous hate.
I've been critical of McHale but last night he stepped up big time. Not many coaches would have let their best player ride the bench and let the reserves continue to roll. That takes a lot of stones. Also like that he owned up and admitted it was a mistake hacking Jordan at the end of the first half.
The Clippers have no bench. They just were putting in a better effort than we were. That hasn't been the case the last two games.
what mchale did in the 4th quarter, not many coaches have the guts to pull it off. same can be said when he admitted the mistake of jacking dj, and he said it like it's nothing. hats off to our coach.
