Exactly. Funny how the race of the people involved changes opinion around here so much. I'm not shocked that you'd downplay the obvious racial slur, but you can't lie, if it was a racial slur targeting a different racial group, EVERYONE would be calling him a racist. The reason people dismiss her saying she heard Martin saying "get off of me" is because it runs contrary to the physical evidence.....just like people ignored the eyewitnesses that said that Micheal Brown was shot in the back or those who said he was shot "execution style". When the physical evidence doesn't support testimony, it gets tossed out. Now we could toss out her entire testimony if you want, but that wasn't the point, my point was that there was testimony from a friend of his that said he uttered a racial slur directed at the person he went to confront immediately before confronting them. Switch the races and there's no way people wouldn't be calling Martin a racist.
Just because white people generally laugh about it when racial slurs are directed towards them doesn't mean that they aren't racial slurs....no different than any other....and it doesn't mean that those who use them are any less racist than those who would use other racial slurs.
I used to work on a construction site and my nickname was bolillo. I haven't been called cracker in a long time but I thought bolillo was pretty funny.
That's BS... I know White guys who won't find it funny at all if you call them white trash... Especially if another White person says it to them. As far as you and justtxyank saying n***ger and cracker are on the same level... That falls in the "racist white folks trying to equate the two to meet their agenda" category. Just like you pick and choose certain parts of the girls testimony to meet your agenda. But I was just asking that question because you brought up what the girl said Martin said about someone following him but ignored the part when she said she heard Martin telling Zimmerman to get off of him when you brought up Martin attacking Zimmerman.
Again, I don't expect you to understand....in fact, I'd be pretty shocked if you did. To you, only certain racial slurs "count"....which is a pretty foolish way of thinking, since they are at heart all the same thing, but to each their own.
The difference here is that if Zimmerman was proactively stalking someone while Martin was reacting to being stalked. If a black guy says, "hey look at that crazy-ass cracker over there!" and then starts following him and an altercation follows, then yeah I'd look seriously at racial slurs as a possible indicator of motive. But this isn't that. What Zimmerman says while proactively undertaking a stalking has different implications than what Martin would say in reaction to his realization that he's being stalked. Zimmerman chose Martin; Martin did not choose Zimmerman.
White folks with common sense don't equate those two words as the same... White folks came up with that word for poor white folks in the south. And those were the folks who were the "whip crackers" on the slaves which is why Blacks folks 1st started using it and it's meant for bigoted White folks and not White folks as a whole. Unlike the racist slurs White folks came up with for Black, Hispanic, Asian, etc folks. That word is also outdated as well. I don't think I've actually heard someone say it in real life since the early 80's. Martin must have been watching some old Sanford and Son reruns... He did... Well, doesn't that throw the cracker argument out the window? Lol...
Seriously? If the roles were completely switched, you don't think we'd get a million headlines about a racist white teen assaulting a black neighborhood watchman?
After the white teen's female friend testifies in court that the young man repeatedly used racial slurs to refer to the watchman and that the slurs were perfectly normal things to use against African Americans? Yea, we'd still get a million headlines about racist white teen assaulting black neighborhood watchman.
It is what it is dude... Ask some of the natives how they feel about a football team being called the Washington Redskins. You, Bobby, and others will cry about the word cracker but Redskins is all good. And don't get me started on that Cleveland Indians mascot. Just to add... In this country when minorities use so called slurs against White folks ---> there's not a heavy history of them proceeding it with hanging people from trees like apples, blowing up houses, setting schools and churches on fire, etc.
lol, go to the NFL section on CF and read what I said about the Redskin issue. Also, can you please stop saying "minorities"? You know you only care about one minority group.
So you are telling me that if a black cop pulls over a white guy, the white guy calls the black cop the n word in an altercation that ultimately results in violence, you would not take into consideration the racial slur when forming your (non legally binding) opinion of what occurred? It's ridiculous. The only reason the racial slur doesn't matter in the Trayvon case is because calling a white person a honky or a cracker is not considered "racist" by the people doing the analyzing here. As to Remii calling me a racist...YAWN. Your lack of self realization is astounding.
Again, that's not what we're talking about. You referenced the anger people felt when they thought the 911 recording had Zimmerman using a slur. But, the roles weren't reversed. In that case, Zimmerman was still the pursuer and Martin the pursued.
