Mier is 24 and struggling in AA

    Not looking good.

He appears to be fully mature. Just by the way he plays the game it tells me he is probably done developing as a baseball player.

    Kid was a bust :(

Lidge and Wagner were both pretty good minor league starting pitchers as well... and Dotel started in the majors before being placed in the bullpen for good.

Even if he starts in the bullpen, there's no reason they can't convert him to starter... and vice versa. Right now, he's just gotta go out and pitch his ass off... his "role" will be defined eventually.

I don't disagree with you........ Mike Hampton, David Cone, Nolan Ryan and many others bounced around before becoming starters long term.

If he can dominate out of the pen THIS year, then call him up when he is ready and work him in.

Correa with another walk in his first AB today. His plate discipline is going to be extremely welcomed up here.

Why is Singleton batting 5th? Should be hitting 3rd behind Correa.

I'm not sure what this post really has to do with mine.

I was just responding to the "if he fails at 20, he'll fail at 23." As many others in this thread have noted, there's a ton of players who have proved that false.

I'm of the opinion any of those careers would represent a disappointment for Correa; yes, even Schilling or Bautista, who blossomed well into their late 20s/early 30s. If it takes him 6, 7, 8 years to finally realize his potential, it'll be wildly unsatisfying.

Because he was referring to players at the age of their debut... not players who debut'd early and then eventually "got it" (or players who "got it" eventually regardless of their age). One thing of note, all those players were bad in their debut's, no matter when they came up... which was his point.

All those above examples and your premise are basically two separate points.

Not really - being ready is different from being good; he's not going to get "good" between 20 and 22/23. He might mature; sure. He might might learn some valuable lessons, etc. But special talent is special, and MLB is littered with players of his regard who have absolutely delivered at a very young age (Machado, Trout, Kershaw, Harper, Cabrera, not to mention ARod, Griffey...)

At this point, there's no reason to leave him at AAA any longer than it takes for them to confirm he's not overwhelmed by it. By every other indication, he's ready to start his ML career.

And excuses like, "too much pressure," or "too big a jump," or "too young" ring about as true as "we'll have kids when we're ready/stable/rich..." IOW, it's never EASY but cream generally rises to the top.

And I would hope having Frick and Frack in the middle of their line-up is also forcing them to have that conversation. I'm OK with them giving Carter OR Gattis space to work out of their slumps; but not real high on both doing it simultaneously.

I'll agree with this. Guess I didn't understand the initial point.

And for the record, I want Correa up yesterday.

Great to see about McCullers joining Correa. Fresno peeps better get out to games now to see these guys while they can.

Now that they are our affiliate I've seen their website and twitter account on a regular basis. Fresno seems like one of the most entertaining products in all of the minors.

    Just a few recent gems

Lol, we're both wrong. McCullers calls it a slurve.
