The weather part of your post is true only for Southern California. Northern California is a complete crapshoot when it comes to weather.

And race relations are ALWAYS going to be an issue anytime there are major gaps in class distinctions. The difference between even upper and lower middle class in a place like SF is so wide that the two have grown to despise each other.

bro, when they talk about San Fran being a melting pot, they just referring to the fact that it's like Gaytopia. Aint noone care about minorities unless they gay also. They voted for Obama so they feel like they paid their racial dues.

Visited last year and loved it. Probably wouldn't want to live there, though.

Went to a Giants game and although the stadium is absolutely BEAUTIFUL, the crowd was kind of rough for a baseball game. Same goes for most of the bars surrounding the stadium. Of course, I'm used to going to Astros games where the environment couldn't be more laid back and family-friendly.

Traffic was much worse than Houston's. I think their "rush hour" is 7 days a week between 5 am and 10 pm.

How ironic that due to my experiences I was just thinking about this a week or so ago. It honestly feels to me like the Democrats want people like me to crawl out of the woodwork once every 4 years to vote and then go back to hiding and not interfere with anything.

I am gonna move to LA. The only saving grace here is the women. Gorgeous girls everywhere but LA has even hotter women I've heard.

The rich never understand this city ! It is like a princess living in a castle looking at commoners starving and wondering why aren't they eating cake ? I felt exasperated one day about three months ago when I was on twitter after the homeless man incident in Starbucks. I searched "homeless Starbucks" in Twitter and the result was lots of rich white women proudly telling the world how they had bought a homeless guy a coffee or given him money. The will then go back to their homes in posh areas and never see those homeless again. However it is the poor/working class people like me then who have to deal with the issues from homelessness daily. You can't go to the public library because they're always there snoring. You can't have your wife/daughter riding the train at night because who knows what can happen (*shudders). You can't walk the streets late at night with any peace of mind. It is extremely aggravating.

Also, I hope my posts don't make it seem here that I dislike white people in any way. I am just trying to explain how there is a severe disconnect in this city between the haves (who in most cases are white) and the have nots (mostly minorities).

I wouldn't live in Frisco either. If you were to live in the Bay Area, i would definitely try and find a place in Alameda.

I think maybe you should just chill out. If you are cool with people, they will be cool with you. It doesn't matter if they are white, asian, latino, black, gay, whatever. Just be cool and you will have a great time here.

I think you are too caught up with worrying about what you don't have that other people have. Just relax... say hello to homeless people... they will say hello back... promise. The drug dealer down the street... smile and nod your head... relax... it's all cool. You can walk around at night in every neighborhood. Look like you are scared of everyone, and you become a mark... but that is everywhere in the country.

Was torn between Golden State and Memphis for the next round opponent. Now the OP's posts settled it for me. Memphis it is then;)

This is a weird thread. I lived in the Tenderloin. No big deal. The weather? It's chillier than Houston, sure, but no big deal. The public transportation system always seemed pretty good to me. Homeless people? Piss smell in the alleys? Hello?! It's an urban city.

Some of you freaks need to either grow a pair or move back to Katy.

Oh, and the chicks in California and especially SF are horrible - looks, attitude, smarts, whatever you like. I would take an east coast girl over a California girl a thousand times out of a thousand.

Living in SF means you are very close to several of the most breath-taking natural environments in America.

Yosemite 3 hours to the east, Monterey Bay and Big Sur a couple hours to the south. Not to mention the redwood forests just outside of the city. Even if you don't love the city itself I'd be in love with the things that surround it.

On paper the weather is fantastic. The forecast will say high of 70 for the day, but in certain parts of the city you get these coastal breezes coming from the north that will chill your bones. Then you walk a few blocks and you're sweating again. That was my experience at least.

I understand your sentiment, but this makes no sense. The response to civic/urban issues such as a piss smell DEFINITELY shouldn't be "grow a pair".

If someone says I really can't stand the piss smell in SF, and it's a negative of living there, well... that's just really hard to argue with. It's a negative. Noted. Hope it improves.

Yeah, last time I visited SF we stayed in Russian Hill for a couple nights. It was ok. There's stuff to do as a tourist.

Then we drove north to Marin County, went out to Tahoe, Yosemite for the next week. Preferred that.

If you are going to move to SF, first you need to make sure you are making a bunch of money. And 2nd, learn the micro climates so you don't end up in a foggier area. And if you live in one of the highest crime areas in any city (Bayview), you probably aren't going to love it. SF has great restaurants, great bars, beautiful scenery, great parks, most areas don't smell like piss. Surrounding areas offer skiing, snowboarding, surfing, mountain biking, redwoods, wine country, skate parks, great breweries. It's basically paradise for people who like the outdoors. Weather is one million times better than Texas, possibly 2 million times better. From Jul through September, I would take bay area weather over just about anywhere in the world and I currently live in San Diego county. If you live in SF and you haven't figured out how to layer your clothing to stay warm, that's your fault. The traffic in SF is TERRIBLE. The MUNI and BART might be bad, but it's a lot better than public transit in Austin and Houston. There are a lot of great towns that are a short drive from SF. You don't have to live in a super congested area like most of SF. The vast majority of San Mateo county and Marin county is open space. Which is one of the big reason's it's so insanely expensive to live there. SF is nowhere near as racist as anywhere I've been in Texas.

The lack of Tex-Mex and BBQ in the bay area are really it's biggest drawbacks. Well, those things and the parking, [parking tickets, and tolls, and rent.

    No.

San Francisco is full of homeless people and the mentally ill that can literally do anything they want. It is extremely expensive, there is a major class division. It is very dirty and pretentious. You aren't even allowed to circumcise your child if you want to. The weather is more mild than most but it isn't close to ideal. It is fun to visit, and there are parts I enjoyed in my year there, but I can see why people wouldn't want to live there.

Not that I care at all or have kids, but that circumcision thing is totally false. Parents here have the same freedoms to cut or not cut their male kids, according to my friends.

All your other points stand, though I would say class division is a big-time American problem and not just San Francisco. The homeless and mental health issues make it more severe, but the base problem seems ubiquitous. My parents live in small town east Texas, and that's as class divided as any place I've been. Meth lab people, welfare Walmart people, minimum-wage Walmart people, a tiny fraction of middle class people working the very few decent real jobs, and then the in-power upper crust of business owners, plus their friends, the children of timber and oil families.
