the word you are looking for is 'heart'. this isn't a real team. It's a collection of numbers and analytical stats that an accountant put together in their simulator and decided it would work. you think these guys would goto bat for each other? please. they aren't teammates, just shoting percentages, PER, and whatever other fancy names statheads come up with these days to tell you that they know more about everything else than you do.

The thing is, this team had heart during the regular season. More heart than I've seen from any Houston team in any sport in more than a decade. It's why so many people actually felt that we could have a fun postseason this year. Where that heart went in the playoffs is the big mystery.
thats such hogwash. doesnt he have a facebook feed where he can post that next to some other bs lines from people he met at crossfit?
Morey would be the first to tell you this team isn't the finished product yet. But this year the players don't fit the Moreyball system. At all. The only thing to change is to get players who can pick and pop. Shoot the midrange. It would enable us to get around the DeAndre Jordans of this world. And withstand our 3pt shooting slump.
yeah, that's what's most baffling. We were doing fine until we lost Game 1. Clippers probably were our worst match-up. And when Harden couldn't get going, neither the Smith-Howard lobs too, we had no one else to turn to. Offense was too primitive and limited. This team, even in the regular season, when its offense goes bad, even the defensive effort goes as well. We defend with effort only for limited stretches. We can't sustain it a whole game. That's why we keep losing leads. And sometimes we can come from behind. But the offense and defense comes and goes. Fools' gold
Don't you think it's time to update the Moreyball philosophy to include this option? Because how did we do using only 3s and shots at the rim when you have a rim protector squashing your best player and all the 3 are being missed? Time for Morey to acknowledge this.
SO TRUE. Can't help it, it's a reality <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Sucks, they battled through a ton this year and were REALLY good until Mavs Game 3. <a href="https://t.co/v8rDYjW52h">https://t.co/v8rDYjW52h</a></p>— Hardwood Paroxysm (@HPbasketball) <a href="https://twitter.com/HPbasketball/status/597600731693228032">May 11, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
^^^^ That wasin reply to this tweet <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/HPbasketball">@HPbasketball</a> I guess the saddest thing as a Rockets fan is how much this series is going to alter the perception of this season.</p>— Jackson Hart (@Jack_of_Harts) <a href="https://twitter.com/Jack_of_Harts/status/597600547378716673">May 11, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
its something we've been attacked for saying for the last 3 yrs.... I don't even have the time to bump the threads, but its not worth it. And its easier than that. Clog the paint and run people off the 3 pt line. It screws up everything the team has been doing especially when that area of the court is unknown to them.
This year I don't think we have the people who are good at midrange. DMo had that push shot near the FT line. Yeah, we don't have competent shooters at all.
Not to go in on McHale, there is a thread for that, but... getting a new coach has to be at or near the top of the list. Getting a good coach in here though, Morey is probably gonna have to take a "step back". Can he? Will he? Does he want to? I know, there are some of you who will deny til you're blue in the face that Morey and McHale are separate and Morey doesn't influence McHale or tell him how and who to play. Step back. You're the GM, not the coach. Then go hire a coach. Let the coach run his system or the team as he see fits. Enough of "Coaching doesn't matter" or "Coaching impact is minimal" or "Coaching impact is overrated" or whatever he said. Then you and your coach sit down, talk and assemble a roster that fits with what he wants to do. Sure McHale sucks, but why would you give him/assemble a roster that doesn't fit with what YOU want to do? It's the million dollar question and it's baffling.
LOLOLOLZ. That must be it... Nevermind, how analytic the Spurs are and how much we copy them in terms of scouting and acquiring undervalued players like Danny Green, Boris Diaw, Belinelli, etc. It sucks we don't have Pop as a coach and 3 future HOF players that have played their careers with each other. IT IS VERY TOUGH TO WIN IN THE MODERN NBA.
I'm the last person to attack coaches just as someone to blame. But when a team just flat out gives up ... that's ALWAYS on the coach.
Do you understand how difficult it is to cover all that space? Mavs sure couldn't stop Moreyball because they don't have the personnel, the Clippers do. Pace and space is here to stay. Morey's top FA's he wants are all elite mid range shooters: Bosh, Melo, CP3, and Aldridge. Y'all don't understand Morey will acquire players that elite at something, like transition (Brewer), career 3 point specialist (Terry), 3 & D (Ariza*), etc. You simply can't see the forest through the trees and deal with absolutes. Besides the what-if of us rolling into the post season healthy, what if Ariza's offense didn't resemble the last time he put on a Rockets uniform.
