Was you at the game tonight? Or did you watch it on TV? Please let us know what you saw tonight in Appels start that made it so bad. Would be great to have that insight Thanks ahead for the valuable insight you are gonna provide to show how Appel wasn't good
Since when did someone even say it was a good thing? The only mention of Appel was that he had a decent outing.
I was at the game. I didn't feel like Appel controlled the game at all, the Missions should have had way more runs but we had some really phenomenal defensive plays in key moments. Correa is really really impressive in person. And I was impressed with Mier as well, is it too late for him? If he keeps playing like this I could see someone requesting him in a trade.
If those 8 hits are all singles or softly hit balls. That means he has a good outing. Not saying that's what happened, but by any measure 0 earned runs and 1 walk constitute a good outing.
I was also at the game and Kyle Westwood looked more impressive than Appel. Appel looked really underwhelming. Like Fish Bulb said the defense looked awesome. The outfielders made some great plays. The right fielder threw a awesome line drive to home plate to save a run. Fun game to be at if you're a hooks fan.
Not really anyone of consequence... Sims was a Minor League Rule 5 draft pick last season from the Braves, and Martinez was signed in August after the Indians released him. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Astros have released Minor Leaugers LHP Blaine Sims, OF Jorge Martinez</p>— Brian McTaggart ⚾️ (@brianmctaggart) <a href="https://twitter.com/brianmctaggart/status/597486161301372928">May 10, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Mier is still only 24, despite this being his 7th year in the system. Glad to see him have some success but I doubt he's finally put it all together. Hopefully he does for a little longer so that it gives the appearance that we're trading someone of value if he's part of one down the road.
If Mier keeps playing like this, he will need to be put on the 40 man roster. Glad for him. even though he has struggled, he has maintained a decent on base percentage throughout.
Doubt he ever makes an impact on the big league club. There's a pretty big line ahead of him at the middle infielder/utility positions: -altuve -lowrie -Marwin -Villar (debatable but probably still ahead for 40-man consideration) -Correa -Sclafani -Fontana -Torreyes I'm happy he's finally finding a measure of success but I predict he gets exposed in the rule 5 or is a throw-in in a trade.
Jio Mier is in the future a great defensive 3B/SS/2B, that's it. The Astros have 5 guys right now that are better as utilitymen,
Phillips and Fisher always seemed like the type of athletic prospects that the scout seemed to love. With strong seasons I expect both of them to be top 75, maybe top 50 next season. Particularly Brett Phillips. He is in Lancaster right now, so his numbers are grain of salt. He should move to CC pretty soon, and if he is able to maintain numbers there he will have basically established himself as a true 5 tool prospect, and he is still only 20. That's bordering on elite prospect status considering how much they value tools.
Future big league bullpen lefty Bryan Radziewski (he's described himself as a "short, fat guy", I'm rooting for him), had a solid debut with Lancaster too: 5/4/1/0/0/5. Now has given up 19 hits with 5 BB and 30 Ks in 27 innings for the year.
