The news is that his contract won't be renewed, right? I assume he's still with Grantland until the end of the year.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">I'll file later but some initial thoughts: Look for some Grantland staffers to leave with Simmons. Look for ESPN to continue G-Land for now.</p>— Richard Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) <a href="https://twitter.com/richarddeitsch/status/596686114880155650">May 8, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
VICE Sports will pick him up I predict, match made in heaven. Shane Smith is on record last year saying he wants to crush ESPN in digital content. Thinks they'll grow 10 times the size of ESPN digitally. Simmons would basically bring over an entire audience of several million on his own.
I hope Barnwell, Mays, Keri, and Goldsberry leaves with Simmons. That would cause a huge crater for the website.

Holy **** this is HUGE. I want some competition against ESPN. I think for the casual reader ESPN will still crush pageviews, but Simmons has a huge following of diehard NBA/sports fans, including myself, who will definitely gravitate to wherever he goes. I think we're all tired of ESPN's bull**** at times. Hopefully simmons can create the best new thing for sports content
I can seriously see Simmons being hired by Jeter's company for his website, The Player's Tribune. It makes perfect sense.
I wonder if he's going to write a "behind the scenes" piece about ESPN or if they paid him to keep his mouth shut.
