its not about playing hard for the rockets, its about not going full r****d. they have a tendancy to go full r****d during the game. this must frustrate playoff dwight since he's the only consistent mug out there. i cant imagine the pain and anguish seeing firsthand ariza missing his wide open threes.

more energy and play harder is the trick maybe

First of all this team is talented, but a lot of our players have limitations too.
This leads to a lack of confidence under pressure. To their credit, they do fight back most of the time, but we have a long way to go.

I just noticed Brewer, as fast and skinny as he is, doesn't really have the longest arms for his height.. You mean that kind of limitation?

Rockets play hard and have talent.

The thing that Holds the rockets back is the dumb mistakes they do

Not during the Battier-Scola-Hayes years. It was the reverse. When Yao and TMac went down, we didn't have a lot of talent but we played hard.

It's the limitations of the roster. And perhaps the limitations of our offensive style.

What can you do when the defensive plan of the opponent is to take away the game of your star player. When he is doubled, he needs his teammates to step up. For some reason, Smith is out of sorts. And we aren't hitting 3s. When he can't drive, his outside shooting must be on. But he is being doubled. You can't give him screens, because precisely it brings the double team. If all else fails, we need to generate transition offense. But when the opposing team is shooting well, we can't run.

Maybe next year, the brain trust can recruit players who can create or add to our hardcourt sets. Because right now, it is what it is.

We need defensive intensity to limit the scoring so our offense is not so taxed.

Our problems have nothing to do with limitations which is why a lot of you don't get it...its about coaching, listening, experience, we have none of that.

Another thing we don't have is composure , when things aren't working our way we tend to deviate from the initial plan and do too much.

1)Limit your turnovers, which means you don't have to run and throw outlet passes after every miss, just pick and choose your spots correctly its not hard

    2) Play for each other on defense, this is coaching...For example when we double blake every man should know exactly what to do and give 100% doing it, because doubling blake is gonna happen and should happen more often

3)Try to limit these ISO plays and work together on Offense, love the P&R with Dwight and harden, love it with smith and harden then smith becomes a facilitator...more of that, and if they defend it well second option should be known straight away, instead of going to iso, we need more screen and pops, post ups etc......give each other a better shot selection

If the owner thinks it's ok just to make the playoffs then players can stay lay back.

There's also a monetary prize that increases as the team moves up through the playoffs. That should be enough motivation for these guys to play harder.

This has nothing to do with what the owner says about what how he measures a successful season. Even if Les said the season is a failure and he'll blow up the team if they don't win it all the players still have their jobs. They could get traded but it's not like their contracts will be terminated. These aren't project based jobs like normal people have.

To me, this was the epitome of team that hustled without any star talent. Our current team is more talented, but they don't have the same heart or passion the AB/Scola/Landry team had

According to Draftexpress, Corey Brewer's height is 6'6.75" with out shoes. 6'8.25" wingspan.
So longarms for a pedestrian short arms for an NBA player.

It's on McHale, the funny thing is that Rockets played their hardest when they are underdog...

I prefer the term focus. When we focus, we are unbeatable. When we do.

So this thread is about the teams from the early '90s leading into the 15 game win streak to start '94.

It actually sounds like the Spurs for the entire decade of the '90s as well.

And it definitely sounds like the CP3 Clippers. That is their biggest critique. Maybe they are the ones focused this year to change their legacy.

It certainly doesn't apply to very many Rockets teams since. As for this team, no one can say we underachieved to get #2 seed with all the injuries.

All 30 teams in the NBA "have a lot of talent and don't play hard every night."

A great post, this team does not play a high IQ ball for all game. Harden plays YMCA ball sometimes, other players do the same thing. I would say this team has more talent than the Spurs if you ask me, but people still think Spurs are better than us.

You think Harden is not tired? You think its easy to average 27.6 ppg for all but 1 regular season game and not win it? Easy to get passed up for an mvp popularity vote? Could be hard on the ego and ambition. He will bounce back in a big way. The Guy is a champion of pure will. He didnt get this good just by god given talents. Except for his mind. He will figure it out... how to get around Deandre. The Rockets are like Leonitas at thermopoli. This guy is a fuchin Spartan - he over trains, over analyzes, and got balls bigger than any other player not named lebron. So, lets give them the support they need no matter what. Criticizing and pointing out defects all the time is counter productive. Lets show them appreciation for fighting to get the highest seed we have gotten in a long time.
