Need to use Jones in a different role. Playing him as a traditional 4 is not his strong suit. Let him take Griffin off the dribble, just let him know he can 'PASS" if he doesnt have the shot
He has held them accountable several times. Why do you think they responds well after a terrible game like that?
Jeez, dude, are you that hopped up on coke or simply intergalactically stupid? A McHale relative? Mentally ill? Blind hatred? Kevin McHale is a great guy. He just isn't a great coach. We got the #2 seed because Harden played out of his mind. We lost yesterday because Harden was pouting and dragged the team down with him. If I hated the Rockets, last night's game wouldn't bother me.
I certainly didn't see the need to extend McHale. After reading the Wojnarowski piece about Tom Thibodeau and the Bulls, part of me wanted him in Houston if he were to become available. Then I realized he he might do what he did to Luol Deng to Harden or something and I didn't want him as much.
I posted the above last night before the Warriors-Grizzlies Game #2 tonight, pointing out a video of how much better of a coach Memphis' Dave Joerger is than McFail just by the attention of detail he shows in his pressers. Well, Memphis' great coaching paid off tonight with a disciplined offense (only 13 turnovers against the league's #1 defense) and great defense against the NBA's best offense. Such a clean and polished game by Memphis, with no panic and frenzy -- something McFail could never do, who just relies on raw talent and a loosy-goosy "system" (if you can call it that). Naysayers can't say it was all just because the players "stepped up." The attention to detail and great coaching is obvious with this Memphis team, something Houston can only dream of right now. Coincidentally, former Houston assistant coach Elston Turner (Adelman's assistant) is one of Joerger's assistants. You have to think he's going to get some calls this off-season for open jobs. He still has a home in Houston -- perhaps he might get a call because he's familiar to Morey and Les.
I've been following the Rox closely since 1976 with John Lucas, and call into Houston talk radio all the time. Believe me, I have deep knowledge of this team dating back to the late 70's. I can take just about anything bad the Rockets do and deal with it internally. I just get REALLY worked up this time of year when McFail shows how clueless he is. He's holding up this team from being great.
Yes and No. There were a number of games Harden seems drunk. McHale might have benched him for one of those. He finally react, but as usual, it's too late. And then there was everytime we played the Clipper, Redick and the like burnt us up because Harden was guarding (or not guarding) them. That last for at least a season+. McHale finally made the adjustment to put Harden on someone else, but as usual, late. McHale is who he is. He is part of the player club and is rarely objective enough. The day that I knew for myself that he's just not right for a team is when he was visibly happy after a Rockets win that they should have lost with extremely poor play. You just can't be happy with all win and you can't be sad with all lost... it depends on how you play. Over the years, I think he has been a negative enabler in the team style and altitude and I think he will continue to be that. Player have to overcome their own poor play, altitude, style themselves. McHale hasn't and I doubt will do anything to put them in a position to do so.
Just ask yourself, how many games have you watched when you said... "Wow, McHale just outcoached xxxx!"?
How the team responds is more vindictive about coach than last game. All of the issues weren't caused by poor game-planning. The gameplan was solid. The defensive rotations were sloppy allowing WIDE open looks, the turnovers were not caused by McHale running on the court and kicking the ball out of bounds, and McHale didn't grease the ball to make it hard for the Rockets to hit the broad side of a barn. However we did hear about McHale using colorful language to get on the team after the game, he pointed out how terrible they played, and showed acknowledgement that they needed to play better in game 2, and ...uh... actually care somewhat. If any of you complainers are using McHale as the scapegoat in game 1 then you are truly showing your dedication to the McFail Smear Campaign. I don't think the guy is the greatest coach in the league for an X's and O's standpoint, but this one was NOT on him. Get over the constant deranging. He's not going anywhere for another year or two at least, and he's improving year after year on the court. Also his assistants are top notch. So shut it please.
This does fall on coaching, unfortunately. This team doesnt have the personnel to be jacking threes like that. Besides, thats a gimmick come playoffs. Why doesnt the coach play on players strength rather than what stats say? Playes are executing what they been taught. Undisciplined lazy coaching. Put ball on Hardens hands just like on 2k
