In the book, his horse is in heat. Is that what happened in the show? I can see the scene in my head but I don't recall that detail.

It was the same if I remember correctly. He road a horse that was in heat and it caused the Mountain's horse to go wild and throw him.

Yeah, show and book were the same. His horse was in heat which distracted The Mountain's ride. I'm not sure if it is technically classified as "cheating" per whatever tourney rules they have, but it was certainly a little underhanded.

That is what I was referring too.
I thought it was a moment where they used to show that Loras was a very good knight
They have gone away from that .. . . . he doesn't do anything useful in the show at all now

Yep, Jon is looking good so far this season. I wonder if him getting shanked is gonna be skipped, or does he send guys off to rescue Sansa resulting in him being attacked to end the season.

I really hope the don't give Sansa the fake Arya treatment. I really could do without Joffrey 2.0. One ugly scene I'm OK with, just don't wanna see an ongoing thing.

Slow start, but I'm really excited about this seasons prospects now. For the first time I can start to watch with genuine cluelessness.

Great episode. Was surprised they changed the wording from "fetch me a block" to "Ollie, get my sword" but it was still a fantastic moment. And the Stannis nod. Loved that.

Only complaint about the episode is the reasoning behind Sansa and Ramsay. I can sort of see why Littlefinger is doing it, but I can't buy at all that he would be able to talk her into going along with it after all she's been through. But the show is also stretching the limits of my disbelief suspension by suggesting that Littlefinger, a guy who seems to have his little fingers in a lot of pies and has information from all over, is somehow totally in the dark as to Ramsay's ruthlessness and proclivities? Would seem pretty hard to keep that a secret and Baelish would have done his research on the guy before agreeing to send Sansa to him. If Ramsay does to her what we all imagine he will, she'll never trust Littlefinger again. And rightly so.

i guess they are not gonna do the kingsmoot and Aeron Greyjoy. Hopefully they don't leave it out altogether. I enjoy that story line.

The entire Greyjoy storyline is almost assuredly nixed. I myself don't have a problem with it. Those subplots were a big reason why I hated the last 2 books. Not necessarily that they were bad, just unnecessary.

The TV show is clearly trying to streamline the story. Because of all these extraneous stories GRRM added in the last 2 books, all of the primary charcters (which HBO is focusing on) had very little actual story advancement.

Before the season began I thought there was way too much content to get into Winds of Winter.

But now with the pace they are running, completely abandoning the Iron Islands story arch..
coupled with the fact they haven't released the titles for the last two episodes...I am having serious doubts

based on what we know of Littlefinger I just assumed he was feigning ignorance to keep Ramsay's guard down. if he were to approach him regarding his reputation, it would most likely result in a poor outcome for Littlefinger

If she gets the full Jeyne treatment Littlefinger will be the least of her problems...

Wait, why do you guys feel that the kingsmoot is...moot?

They can definitely cut out some of the extraneous stuff but it is a great vehicle to introduce Damphair, Victarion, Euron and the Dragonbinder.

I always felt like the Iron Islands were given too much respect for the way they were presented in the show. Only after reading did I understand their influence and power. This story line would do a great job of fleshing out that aspect of the GOT universe.

Most importantly, I thought that stuff was practically made for TV!

we know it's not in the plans for this season...and based on the timing of some of the High Garden attacks that would theoretically happen this season, I just have a hard time seeing how they would fit it into the timeline.

They've also omitted the whole Jon Connington/Aegon Targaryen (young/old Griff) part of Tyrion's storyline. And I'm expecting that they'll skip over Penny as well.

After 3 separate hints in today's episode, I think the show quietly confirmed the R+L=J theory. Jon and Danerys have always felt like the 2 most viable candidates to be on the throne at the end, and given their extremely strong building of Jon Snow, I think he is probably now the favorite.

They have largely abandoned the books now, but I'm OK with it. I'm guessing Barristans death :( leaves Dany desperate which leads to her agreeing to HZL's offer, so they might still be on the book path in that regard.

Well, if Jon is half Targaryen, he could always marry his Aunt Daenerys and they could rule Westeros together.
