I heard someone mention it before but I think Carden could be an interesting pick at QB. There's already kind of a log jam at the position of very mediocre to average players though so I don't know if we should even draft one at all

I expect the Texans to take Trey Williams with a pick tomorrow. We can use him in a variety of ways. SPEED!

Definitely. It seems like he's got a plan on who he wants in place and isn't complacent to just sit back.

I don't think the Texans have ever really been complacent to just sit back when there is someone they really want.

Honestly didn't mean it as a criticism of Kubiak or anything like that. He and Rick made some moves together to get guys they wanted in the past. It's just nice to see that O'Brien is going after who he feels to be the best guys possible for our team rather than settling

I like that it at least looks like smart decisions were made, the picks might not blow anyone away when they hear about them, but they all at least seem like solid players who fit needs. I also like that it's pretty clear that we've fully committed to creating the most beastly defense possible rather than just reaching for a QB every year trying to go that route.

Agreed, nothing flashy but this class is shaping up to be promising. I can't wait to see our D-line in action.

4 picks remaining. I expect one of them to be used on a slot wr. Jamison Crowder is my guess.

Then use the other picks on OL, RB, DL or OLB.

Same! I know for sure we will risk a pick on him.

Maybe I missed something, but was BOB not aggressive in getting his guys last year? Last year was a disaster even though coming out everyone loved the draft. Did they fundamentally change their approach?

Because of the playoffs I haven't really been focusing much on the Texans this draft.

It's a bit early to be judging last year's draft and we could have 4 legit starters from that class and a 5th eventual guy who could come on down the line with mentorship from Wilfork. Also, it looks like there could be a few guys who develop into decent depth.

I'm excited with the results of the 1st 3 rounds but to be honest I was also excited after Hopkins, Swearinger, and Brennan Williams, and Sam Montgomery. :(

Well, Hopkins has panned out and Swearinger has been OK. Maybe not what we hoped, but OK. Brennan Williams had injury concerns and Montgomery had character issues that came back to bite us in the ass (and yet, people still wanted to take chances on Gregory and DGB).

I don't think any of our picks so far have the same type of concerns that Williams and Montgomery did. Or Nix.

It seems like in the past few years, the Texans have taken some chances in the mid-rounds. Taking players who had the talent to go higher, but fell because of other issues. And that hasn't really worked out. What I'm seeing this year is them going out and moving up to get the guys they want instead of gambling and trying to hit it big on guys with off field issues later in the draft. Different strategy hopefully means different results.

Doesn't all the data suggest that trading up on the NFL draft is never worth it? Such a crapshoot it is better to play the numbers instead of getting enamoured with a player?

All three players are day one starters.

Good job Rick Smith and staff.

Yea I think we learned our lesson from that experience. None of these guys has anything but standout football character, and I don't think any has even missed a game due to injury.

Note how I emphasize football character, though. With Williams and Montgomery there definitely was concern going in regarding how much they loved the game, and over the course of their times here we definitely saw it play out that way.

Pretty much just means that we gotta get as many JJ Watts in here as we can. Once in a while you can afford a Wilfork who loves his BBQ just as much. :)
