That is the most intolerant thing I have ever read.

So in this case, a #-tag campaign actually helped solve the big world problem of Chad needing a job.

    fauxrage worked!

For Christ's sake, don't be ridiculous. When my son was a toddler, he had chronic ear infections. We frequently had to take him to a specialist, who used a device to literally suck the puss from his ear. I was usually the parent who had this unpleasant duty. It was painful. It freaked my son out. Hell, it freaked me out. I don't know how many times I said, "Shhhh. Close your eyes. It will be over soon." I just hope they treat this differently now.

With all due respect, some of you are getting carried away, in my humble opinion. God forbid that we have a sense of humor.

We live in a society that went from telling kids "sticks and stones, words will never hurt" to a society that takes offense to emojis on twitter....

That's interesting.. I hope your son is past all that now, ear infections SUCK.

One thing I have noticed, among all the people justifying the phrase used in the tweet, as being somehow a legitimate thing, that it's silly to get a rapey vibe from it, etc etc etc.

    Ok fine.

But, one thing I have noticed, in all the serious-minded defenses of the text: not a single solitary one of them had a FUNNY story associated with that phrase. Because it is inherently NOT FUNNY, IN ANY WAY.

Not only was it NOT funny, it was the OPPOSITE of funny - nobody saying such a phrase is engaged in any sort of comedy moment.

The phrase immediately conjures up thoughts and images of pain, suffering, fear, worry, and even death.

THAT is why it creeped me out, not the 'rapey' vibe some people can justifiably get from such a thing, but simply because it was so out of place within the context of its use. That AND combine it with the imagery of the gun and the horse..?

Absolutely cringe-worthy, and an embarrassment for the organization.

Could be this one (just guessing):

"After 3, Rockets lead Timberwolves 84-75. Ricky Rubio may be dead."

His tweets felt more like witty/snarky undertones that one would typically find on reddit but not appropriate for a professional organization. Just cringe-y

There you go reaching again - pulling s*** out of your ass.

It was AN INSULT to the Mavericks. That's supposed to be the funny part, regardless of whether or not you actually found it to be funny. Jokes need to be taken as part of the CONTEXT. In fact, EVERYTHING needs to be taken within the context.

Take the terms "Destroy the Mavs," "Screw the Mavs," or "The Mavs Suck." What part of "destroy," "screw," or "suck" conjure up anything positive? In fact, all those are heavily negative words, which by themselves only conjure up negativity, hatred, and violence.

Or take America's Funniest Home Videos of people falling down the stairs or doing other acts which likely caused bodily harm. Why are those funny? The actual action of them hurting themselves is NOT funny, but we find it humorous in their stupidity while disregarding their pain. We assume that they were not actually hurt. If the videos showed the same thing, but extended it to reveal the individuals being paralyzed or dead, would they still be funny? Context, people... context.

Again, I am not arguing the subjective conclusion of whether or not his exact tweet was funny - I found it funny, you did not - that's the end of the conversation. But to infer any absolute negativity or maliciousness OUTSIDE of the actual context is just asinine.

The firing has made Chad Shanks famous and has shone light on the tricky nature of social media. Guess that's the good that has come out of this.

We'll miss your tweets, Chad. He appreciates the support from the online petition.

    "Houston we have a problem"

It's what you make of it.

You've got Terry wearing all black before games in anticipation of their death...it's not literal, but in the context of competitive sports. If you're a fan that's engaged in the series, then you should understand the situation at hand and that the tweet totally makes sense at that moment, and not in a creepy way. The mavs were over matched, wounded...it was time to end it. If people want to break it down into individual parts that could be used in terrible off the court situations, then that's on them. That's their own experiences and thoughts at work.

I don't think Nero would be able to handle being a Clemson Tiger fan. They built an actual graveyard at the entrance of their football stadium

THAT'S NOT FUNNY Clemson...you're making fun of people dying.

    <img src="http://www.clemsontigers.com/fls/28500/old_site/images/sports/m-footbl/usc-tombstone-600.jpg?DB_OEM_ID=28500">

Also wander what Nero would think of Oakland Raider fans of yore who had the Black Hole where things go to die.

You make a compelling argument, but the goal posts are being shifted all over the place in this argument.

My initial reaction was not in favor of the tweet. However, the "rape" thing really broke it for me.

I wish everyone in this thread a happy weekend free from twitter hurting their feelings. Guess everyone needs to log off.

The people connecting this to rape are what is wrong with this country.

The more I've really gone back and read Chad's "work" on Twitter, the more I've realized that he isn't funny.

He's mostly going for shock value.

I've changed my position and I really don't think I want him back.

That being said, everyone is still way too sensitive and personalizes way too much.
