    My explanation as posted earlier--

If you're Clyde Drexler, you're going to get a much longer rope than the guy who runs the Twitter account. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.

You seem to be assuming a lot from a favorite/like. I don't feel particularly passionate about all the tweets I favorite. There's a difference between someone agreeing that maybe the comment is in poor taste or slightly unclassy, and it being this huge, massive, offensive thing that should lead to someone being fired.

That's because their most traffic isn't from the headline. It's from social media referrals. I haven't found the Deadspin one yet, but for example, here's the one from TBL.

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Houston Rockets' Twitter Put Down Mavericks With Gun and Horse Emoji <a href="https://t.co/peLTnJsDeD">https://t.co/peLTnJsDeD</a> <a href="http://t.co/I0gpHuPCi6">pic.twitter.com/I0gpHuPCi6</a></p>&mdash; The Big Lead (@thebiglead) <a href="https://twitter.com/thebiglead/status/593398864792674305">April 29, 2015</a></blockquote>

That's begging for clicks. That's what those sites do. That's the entire model.

I wouldn't want a Dallas employee fired if they posted two emojis of a rocket and a bomb, no.

That was me making an example from a comparable situation, as you alluded to. It does happen. In this particular case, we don't know who the final decision-maker was. That's why I have a tough time assigning blame right now. A big part of me wonders if the league office had a role.

Such as what, exactly? Poor sportsmanship? Again, that's an entire organization marketing strategy issue -- not Chad. Remember the whole "King James" graphic? That thing blew up to become the lead story on SportsCenter in less than an hour. Tons of people were calling it unsportsmanlike and classless from a team account. The Rockets loved it. I'd feel bad firing a mid-level staffer in part because of a mentality that's clearly a top-down strategy. The Rockets are very aggressive and edgy with their marketing, all the way around.

I saw very few folks reacting emotionally out of outrage over animal abuse. You know very well that far more would do it if it were a dog, an extremely common household pet. That's where I had an issue with the analogy.

Why not consequences for the aggressive marketing strategy as a whole, which clearly put the mid-level staffers in a position where they'd inevitably make a few mistakes? Besides that, you're looking at it from a strictly business perspective. Sure, on paper, he's replaceable. It's a highly-sought-after job. However, the reality is that it's a lot more complicated than that. The position demands intense interaction with the public on a regular basis, and over the course of time, that leads to personal relationships and trust that is tougher to replace than many upper-level managers think.

Yeah, the Rockets organization is a bunch of pansys for firing the guy. Charmin extra soft. Honestly, it is embarrassing.

Hate Cuban all you want, but he wouldn't have had the guy fired.

For people blasting the Rockets over this, there's a possibility that Morey helped get Chad his new job. Probably not, but it's an interesting thought.

That is great, let's hope Lebatard is not just using him temporarily for a boost in ratings.

Dan wanted to hire him the second he heard the news. Said he wants to defend people's rights to bear cartoon arms. Morey had nothing to do with it. He was on the show and all he did was ignore the questions about the issue.

A tweet is no more animal abuse than what happened in 4Q of game 2. but this event just goes to show that if you cave to the emotional appeals of the social justice zealots in order to avoid a backlash, you end up causing a backlash from the people that actually enjoy your brand. i've known very many SJWs and not one of them watches NBA basketball.
