Tied for 2nd most wins in baseball...second only to KC and NYM with 15. TIED FOR 2ND MOST WINS IN BASEBALL.
it's one of the best Astros teams EVER. Literally. NO Astros team has ever gone 8-1 on a road trip!!!
First sweep in San Diego since 1982. I remember so many years of being tortured by the Padres. Not just what happened in 1998. They used to own us when we went there in the old NL West days.
Didn't mean 3rd place in all of baseball, meant that they have the 2nd most wins at 14...among other teams also with 14
Man..... we ballin!!!!!!!!!! It's still early, but this start is amazing. Now we just need to win some home games. Go Stros!!!
Wasn't there some pitcher named Sterling Hitchcock or something like that? Average pitcher but he killed us in the playoffs. And let's not even mention Kevin Brow.... sorry, I can't complete it.
If we win 53% of the remaining games, we will end up with 89 wins and a playoff birth. This is just crazy talk, but it's reality. The team is very solid right now, hope that we dont endure any other major injuries. That Lowrie one will hurt, but hopefully with Gattis, Springer, and Carter coming around, it minimizes the loss we'll feel.
No idea. Maybe someone who's followed them more closely than I have can shed some light on this. Is this the case of a team overachieving early in the season or are they legit? I know their division sucks, so that'll certainly help keep them in contention for a playoff spot, but how good could they be this year irrespective of the quality of the other 4 teams?
Jack Clark murdered us back at Jack Murphy Stadium. I'd stay up late as a little kid to watch those games, and hated playing the Padres in SD.
Depends on what you mean by "how good." Honestly, far more so than hoops, if you make the playoffs you have a legit shot at making lots of noise and advancing in baseball. Right now they're winning without the meat of their lineup really producing all that well. If those guys come around like they're beginning to indicate they might, this could be a really good team over the course of the season. Starting pitching is solid...it would appear Keuchel and McHugh were not merely one-year wonders. And the bullpen was helped a ton with moves in the offseason; that was their biggest weakness last season. Just enjoy it. This is a really young team, and things are pointing up.
I would also temper the expectation that our division sucks. I think Oakland, Seattle and the Angels are all better than they have looked so far to date.
I mean could they be good enough to win 90+ games? Good enough to win a respectable division and not a crappy one where a team with a .500 record gets into the postseason just because the rest of the competition is so bad(like those 7-9 playoff teams in the NFL)?
Yankees, Red Sox, and Tigers are only teams in other divisions in AL projected by Fangraphs to have more wins than the Astros this season as of today. Fangraphs projection system under rated the Astros prior to the season by 2-3 wins in my opinion and is conservative to adapting to change as it can't tell the difference from improvement and randomness in small sample sizes. Mariners and Angels have under performed in my opinion. The AL West has three teams that should be fighting for a playoff birth this season, the Mariners, Angels, and Astros. I would not say that is a weak division. Athletics aren't too far out either. Rangers...well the Astros could hire Chad Shanks so he could tweet about Rangers season.
I propose we start a petition to change Keuchel's first name from Dallas to Houston. He doesn't deserve to be associated with that city.
