And yes I know that the Rockets got past the first round in 09. But I still feel it appropriate to generally speak of the "stigma" being around for "almost 2 decades" as I mentioned in my earlier post.

Point is the this 2015 Rockets team getting past the first round against a tough division rival in 5 games is probably a bigger deal than many fans realize.

Absolutely. Yao, Artest, Brooks, Scola, Lowry, that team was rolling! Kenny Smith said that series was basically the Finals, and whoever came out would win it all, and we took them to 7.

Yao got hurt, Lakers rolled past the Nuggets and Magic. I really believe we could have won it that year.

I just hope it was a case of playing down to the opposition

Least impressed with the overall play and particularly turnovers, letting Mavs score 120+ back to back, jacking up 3's

But the first big job is done. 3 more bigger ones await the Rockets

Yes but would you agree that the getting past the First Round was in some ways the toughest for the Rockets to overcome? (not so much the opponent...but the situation, collective achievement know how, etc)

All things considered, the Rockets very handily controlled that series. Some inconsistencies, but overall a very strong effort. Need guys like Jet/Jones/Ariza to improve offensively.

That's the opposite of objectivity. If Yao had not went down, the Lakers likely would have won in 5 or 6 because they wouldn't have relaxed like they did.

I think the flopping and the "hack-a-whoever" strategy really got to us in this series. Our team was frustrated by it the last couple games. I'm looking for whoever we face in the next round to give us more of the same. The Mavericks best chance of beating us was to have a combination of us being frustrated and our shooters going cold. Both of those happened and we still won the series.

That's a far fetched conclusion, we were actually in control of that series before Yao went down, its not like we caught fire after the injury and made a series out of it. The series was competitive and back and forth from the get go.

    ^^Monta is a goner.

What's wrong Parsons? Can't convince guys to stay that you've already played with...

If a free agent joins Parsons after his microfracture surgery, the dude definitely deserves to be a Mavprick.

Yeah that's the only way I can justify it. Ellis puts 2 hands palms on Howard first. You're only allowed one hand-check below the free throw line. so I guess refs let them play, which in this case was going to be our advantage. I feel even if Howard didn't push it would have been an easy rebound and put back for Howard anyway. We definitely got a few calls our way this series and same the other way for Dallas.

No way Monta opts- in.... he can get paid double what he's making now.

I'm not sure how you define control. The Lakers had a 10 point margin most of the second half of game 3, which Yao played.

Rockets took game 1 and were actually in control in game 2 before the refs really helped the Lakers out in game 2. Then the Kobe elbow to Artest happened.

Yeah the Rockets had control of that series from the get go. Game 3, the Lakers won it, but who's to say the Rockets wouldn't have taken care of business at home in Game 4 to go up 3-1? That was very possible given the make-up of a Healthy Rockets squad (without Mutombo).

I have to tell you, up until Yao's injury, I felt pretty positive about the way "things were going" in the beginning of that series.

Actually they DID win game 4 to tie it up 2-2. lol

What I meant to say was who's to say the Rockets wouldn't have beaten the Lakers in 7? Yao made all the difference.

So where do you go to watch the press conferences from after the game last night? I can't find them.

Yeah, the refs. it's always the refs.

The Lakers didn't take the Rockets seriously after Yao went out. It's the reason they lost 2 more games. The games they had to win they won by 40 and 19 points.

You are a typical fan who accepts as fact that all of your "what if's" would have turned out the way you wanted them to.
