IndaFace pretty much outlined it very nicely on why people should stay out of the left lane unless they are passing up people. As traffic builds up in the left lane, people tend to bunch up...so traffic starts slowing down...people start getting irritated... so distracted+bad+impatient drivers = more chances of an accident. if everyone followed the speed limit,, then we would have a lot more traffic.
There are very justified reasons to be in a rush. I hope you never drive in rush hour. The inherent difference between Kevooooo and others is that Kevooooo doesn't understand why people would speed. That is a road-block (pun intended) to this raging argument. People are in a hurry to get places. Yes, in theory, if everybody is rational, and nobody got mad that they could be late to a meeting because of somebody else doing something illegal, then no, it is not dangerous to plod along in the left lane. But people have reasons to speed: maybe somebody is late to a meeting, Rockets game, deliver a baby, catch an airplane, whatever it is. And quite frankly, it is common that there are jerks going below the speed limit in the left lane. Being that it is illegal, doing something illegal generally makes others mad, especially if it is seen as a negative externality. It's an externality issue that, unfortunately, people have responses to the externality while in a position that can cause harm. Also, considering the high percentage of drivers talk on their cell phones, being distracted while seeing this also can decrease the chance of a rational response. Thus, as the pick-up truck, is it really worth it? People will speed: stop being a social justice warrior and get out of the lane. Others are in a hurry. Just assume it. And also, it is dangerous to chill in the blind spot of a semi for that long. Your question can be applied to many situations, where in theory, it is "technically" right. But in practice, not so much. But, let's say the theory holds true: nobody tails, but a pile-up occurs. What about entrances and exits? The build up can cause problems here with lane switches. There is a ripple affect on the free-way. The pileup is how it can be dangerous. Also, impatience among the people who are not even directly behind the accused car is when driving abilities are compromised. /thread Also, not sure who said this, but saying you haven't been in a wreck doesn't necessarily mean you are a good driver. I know plenty of crappy drivers who are lucky. Many wrecks are just bad luck.
Can you imagine this thread if swoly-d wasn't banned from the hangout? It's already 7 pages WITHOUT him.
People shouldn't break laws. All of these silly drivers should have their licences revoked and cars melted.:grin:
No, it's more mixed than people assume. Since this passing lane thing is a recurring obsession with some posters, I'll dredge up the research I had done on this subject in 2011: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=6084558&postcount=46 Now I believe this incident was in New York. According to the MIT table, New York is not a left-lane-for-passing-only state. They require slower drivers to keep right. So the pickup driver was not breaking the law. He'd also be okay in Texas unless that stretch of road had 'Left Lane for Passing Only' signs posted.
Actually . .. then no one would stay in the long lane They would simply jump out of it. . in to a faster moving lane then try to get back into the appropriate lane at the last minute . . ahead of everyone that stayed in their lane Rocket River
Everyone should have conceded to the A-Hole . . .who was wrong but they were more wrong for not conceding to him?????? Rocket River
New York requires all drivers to keep right unless you are passing. also "In addition, upon all roadways, any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic, or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway." now I think the drunk was a lunatic, but the truck did violate the laws of the state by driving in the left lane.
I am trying to understand as well If the 18 Wheeler is going 65 The Truck is going 68 the speed Limit is 65 I don't get how the truck SUPPOSE TO GO AT LEAST 70 [which a cop can stop him] OR MORE!!!! To comply with an AHole going 90? Rocket River
So long as you're going faster than the car on your right, I say as long as it takes. Unless they start chaNging speeds, then all bets are off. F it, stay in the left lane, if one person doesn't cooperate, the entire system collapses.
good thing we have citizens that police the left lane by going the speed limit. yall are the real heros! in the future maybe we will have cops who can use some sort of radar technology to stop people from speeding.
In my country, the person with the nicer car has the right of way. Clears up any confusion and unfortunate mishap like in this video.
Where did this even come from? Who said anything about policing the left lane by going the speed limit? This notion that slow left lane drivers are terrorizing the roads in numbers is a bunch of BS. I think it's just people who fancy themselves racecar drivers going 15+mph over the speed limit and always getting stuck behind people driving slower than them.
