Guess that long foul-ball affected Sipp quite a bit. Looks like Qualls will have to face his demons tonight (and we're all fully aware that he has a tendency to implode when coming into games mid-inning with runners on...)
Yep... then I told myself its still April. Maybe I'm not quite ready for "meaningful" games just yet.
well that got interesting quickly. Keuchel pitched one hell of a game. He is a legit ace in this league. I'm sure he would've finished them off in the 10th! Oh well...hopefully our bullpen got it out of their system and we'll chalk this one up to rain
I think Altuve or Carter make a decent conversion of the two opportunities they had in the 10th if dry. Gregerson really only made one mistake. Just thankful for a win and that no matter what... were still in first at the end of Saturday's games too!
Good win! I'll be at all 3 games against the Pads. Hoping they can take this series against the As and keep it rolling!
We have yet to trail at any point in a Keuchel start, dude is a monster. Gregerson gets the win. I have to restrain myself from going off when somebody uses W-L record to evaluate pitching performance. I can even understand team W-L in their starts as a barometer, but the individual W-L record is the most useless stat in sports.
First ever post here (hi everyone), great ballgame to win!! Don't know what it is about the A's that sends our bullpen into collective schizoid breakdown but it's crazy. Thank goodness we won! I agree that Keuchel is a beast and getting better and better.
Hopefully Marisnick comes back soon (day to day, right?). Lineup would have 3 dangerous hitters (Jake, Jed, Altuve), plus 3 more that are looking to hit their stride (Luis, Springer, Gattis). Pitching staff still needs 1 more solid guy, no? I think Roberto is a #5, Feldman a #4. What happened to Obertholzer? I recall him being fairly decent, and having a solid Spring. First time in almost 6 years that I've been excited about the Astros - feels amazing. Actually considering getting MLB TV this year.
The biggest highlight thus far isn't just that we're 9-7 and in first place. The biggest highlight requires a broader view. Take a quick peek at the rear view mirror, because that ain't commin' back. This organization is done rebuilding. I'm looking at the Astros organization, and I'm seeing the same stability that has made the Cardinals a perennial powerhouse for decades. I'm not crowning Luhnow yet, but man...he has put together one hell of an organization in regards to the foreseeable future. Our total payroll is just 70MM. I do think Crane has been penny pinching, smartly, over the past couple years, because there was not yet been a rational reason to spend. Given the depth of our farm system, and our ability to realistically add around 45MM in payroll in the future, and I can't help but get giddy. Yes, we've had a feel-good start, but more importantly, we are nowhere near our peak. Let's celebrate the good start, sure, but bigger things are head. GO STROS
Today's lineup: 2B Jose Altuve (R) 3B Luis Valbuena (L) RF George Springer (R) SS Jed Lowrie (S) CF Colby Rasmus (L) DH Chris Carter (R) C Jason Castro (L) 1B Marwin Gonzalez (S) LF Robbie Grossman (S)
You could add Correa to this lineup right now and move Lowrie to first and I can guarantee this team will compete for the playoffs right now. Would like one more 2-3 rotational starter for a pitcher to this group.
