Does this Rockets team allow way too many offensive Rebounds?

Watching the Pelicans get decimated in the 4th because of a lack of defensive rebounding...It goes to show how important team rebounding is. The Rockets are bad..infact they had a lot of issues throughout the season and especially in games 1 and 2. Giving great teams multiple possessions, especially a great scoring team is a recipe for disasters such as tonight.

The Rockets must regain focus on the glass, make or miss...because the "defensive rebound" is the last step in any defensive possession.

Man. Defensive rebounds have been an issue throughout the season because Howard has been out and throughout the 2 playoff games I've noticed that the mavs getting offensive rebounds is a main driver to why they stay in the game for as long as they do.

The problem is when Howard goes up for a contest or block he pretty much eliminates his opportunity to get the board too. Need to have more of the team interested in securing the board.

So yeah. Rebounds get us from time to time. Howard should alleviate a lot of that issue. I have never in my life watched a basketball game soooo freaking dominated by offensive boards as I did tonight by the Warriors

In the 4th it was mostly Klay and Curry chucking 3 pt bricks while Green/Livingston/Speights/Bogut/Barnes just camped out around the rim gobbling up their rebounds and putting it back in without much resistance. Monty Williams and none of the Pellies players did jack to change it up.

Rockets haven't been very good on the defensive boards even with Dwight on the court.

weak side rebounding is always an issue, when guys like Dwight, Jones Capela Smith etc go for shot blocks the rest have to box out - easier said than done because the shot-blocker needs teammates to rotate to box out his man

Honestly with all the concentration to boss out Howard, I think a guy as tall as Dmo would have grabbed many more offensive boards for the Rox. That Dwight & Dmo combination barely saw light throughout the season, what a shame.

Spurs allowed too many Tunovers, Clippers just could not capitalize

    Rox? Not so sure. Average

I think it's also part of the strategy to score fast. Other 3's probably hang in longer than, say Brewer who's 1st inclination is to get down court. They want the fast break points and I think it costs them rebounds at times. It's not bad enough to make a change, though.

This. It's not a huge issue since we have Dwight and he can pretty much grab every rebound against the Mavs. Our guards like to leak out on rebounds which gives us plenty of fast break points. When Beverley was playing, he actually helped rebound and not leak out which would of helped in the past two games but it's not a huge issue against Dallas.

I think defensive rebounding is critical. I miss JVG's approach to it. When the Rockets won their first title I believe we were 1st in defensive rebounding and dead last in offensive rebounding. Similar disparity in 95.

Can anyone find the rebounding % of championship teams over the past several years?

Pretty much. I was saying this earlier in the year when ppl were killing Bev solely because they wanted Dragic. Bev's defense, rebounding & hustle creates extra possessions that are crucial in the playoffs. Had the Pelicans had Bev out there last nite, I guarantee he gets at least one of those rebounds.

The Rockets are 28th in the league in Defensive Rebound %, however a lot of that is without Dwight who is the best on the team in that regard and WITH Motiejunas who is brutally bad, perhaps the worst defensive rebounder, pound for pound, in the entire league, serving as the nominal center.

It makes sense as the Rockets look to take off down court rather than crash the glass.

When Josh Smith and Terrence Jones are seeing minutes at the center position and our constant switching on defense, you can expect to give up offensive boards. Discipline can make a small ball lineup look respectable, but nothing beats having bigger bodies on the court.

When the center goes out for a block and the defense has to rotate in order to box out that's when the breakdowns usually happen. When the defense can stay on their man they tend to do a better job of boxing out.

It's just much more difficult to have to rotate and still box out.

It is one area that would greatly help the Rockets.
