If I'm Aldridge or Kevin Love, I'm signing a 2 year deal with a 2nd year player option this summer with Portland and Cleveland.
I'm not surprised at all the Morey would capitalize on the rising stock and soon to be very expensive Jones and Dmo for the third star. I would be willing to bet that Smith will sign for whatever the Rockets can offer even the vet min to stay here. Question is can we make a trade like bbhollic suggested without losing Ariza? Ideally the lineup would be: Llull/NJ Harden/Terry(vet min) Ariza/Brewer LMA/Smith/Scola Howard/Capela If you could make the snt for LMA and go over the cap to resign one of Brewer or McDaniels would you then have the MLE to sign Llull? Then vet min or BAE for Smith and vet min for Scola and Terry.
Persuade Aldridge to sign a 1yr/15M deal. Then offer him >20M contract after the salary cap increase next year.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=9689680&postcount=1374 DM: TJ has given us good minutes. He always beats up the Spurs. He is good on both ends and is a young player. Reality is he is a load on offense and can do different things. I'll briefly address the caller's other question. Max moves up with the cap so it doesn't really create more cap room. Not sure if I have answered the QN but wanted to address it a bit. http://www.spotrac.com/nba/houston-rockets/james-harden/ Contract Notes: maximum rookie extension Note: Salaries may increase annually based on adjusted maxmimum salaries for that year's cap.
So here is what it could look like: Interesting to note that Aldridge is currently a 9 year player which means his max salary is 30% of the cap. If he were to wait a year and get that 10th year of experience, he not only benefits from the huge increase in the cap, but also his max salary would be 35% (as opposed to 30%) of the cap, which makes it a huge advantage for him to wait a year to sign a max deal. Assumptions? Would Brewer take room exception for one year with promise of a bigger pay day in 2016? Would Terry, Prigs, Scola and Smith take vet minimum? Could we trade the Pelicans pick, Dmo and Jones for Future picks? Terry / Prigioni / Johnson Harden / Ariza / Brewer Aldridge / Smith / Scola Howard / Capella / Dorsey
Ariza has to be part of any package that we send out for LMA. He's the only one that has a big enough salary to offset LMA's near max deal outside of howard and harden.
I'm not buying into this 100% but why do people think Aldridge will want to sign a max deal this summer when the big payday is next summer? He can easily sign a $12-$15 million dollar 1-year deal this year and re-enter free agency next season for a bigger piece of the pie. If you don't pick up Pap's option, don't bring back Bev, move Dorsey to Philly for a player to waive, move Jones and DMo for future picks like what larsv8 illustrated then it's not out of the realm of reality. The big question would be whether or not you can bring back Brewer and Smith. You're also still looking to fill that point guard hole unless Llull comes over.
Aldridge will be 31 next season. He's been hampered by an injury this season as he has been for most of his career. The smart thing would be to take the guaranteed money.
Then I guess the real question is would Morey want to pay the max for a player turning 31 with injury issues.
Isn't it more likely that LMA signs a one year contract, so he can get the super duper max contract that kicks in year after next?
You guys forget that a Smoove type scenario could come up.. I have the sense that could happen with Deron Williams in Brooklyn. Brooklyn will want cap space. If we some how got LMA then were able to sign Deron Williams? D-Will Harden ? (probably Brew) LMA Dwight
99% chance we try and bring this roster back and hopefully save our MLE for a PG upgrade. We have a contention level roster here.
Hell yea. Swing for the dream scenario. Everytime morey does so and misses, things tend to shake out just fine regardless. More morey please.
