I was kind of baffled when in one of the games I was watching
they referred to one Ref as being the son of another NBA REF

I guess the job passed down from father to son . . . .

don't make him a factor, get it done early and don't give him a chance to influence the game Everyone wants to make a name for themselves and being the guy who refs Harden closely is one he seems to like. Stand up Rednation and support us tonight

This has me feeling seriously rattled about tonight's game. Bleh.

A few bad calls in a row could change the dynamic of the serious, and the mood around here, in a hurry.

I think this is definitely in our favor. He will remember the games he screwed us in and will err on the side of helping us. I'll check back after the game.

Well so much for them not calling any fouls.

So, does anybody have the real explanation on why Dwight got a F1, but Amare's takedown was a simple "common foul"???

At least Dwight attempted to make a play on the ball.

For the record, this was the only time of the night where I thought something "fishy" was up... because the refs had total control of that situation and reversed a call that had very little evidence to do so (and they had already set a precedence by not calling the Amare "flagrant").

That moment of the game made my heart sink. You could tell that the refs were manipulating the game and using Dwight's reputation as an excuse to make the game closer. Happens every game.

Can't bother to check the exact rules but I think the justification is that Dwight's slap at the ball (and it was a hard slap) hit Dirk in the face/head. This is similar to the elbows to the head flagrants, where if it connects, it's basically always a flagrant, regardless of the intent/circumstances.

Amare's was a borderline call. On most of the camera views it did look like a hard regular foul. On the one from behind, it looked like a flagrant.

It's a good thing the game didn't come down to the wire. I'm already tired of this fouling/reffing bs and hope they would just let the players play (even if Harden got slightly less calls favoring him as a result).

That's ridiculous. That "head" contact was incidental, at best... Dwight wasn't intentionally trying to hurt him. The rule should be simplified to say any "excessive contact" that does not involve making a play on the ball, should be a flagrant.

Yes, both instances featured "aggressive" contact... but one involved a play on the ball, and the other didn't. The second they didn't rule Amare's as a flagrant, they should have used the same criteria on Dwight's foul.

Or maybe next time, Dwight should just grab Dirk by the shoulders and bring him down hard... like Amare did... and then it won't be a "flagrant".

The guy tried his best, but he failed. Definitely was trying to rig this game in the 1st half. Funny how this guy is a convicted felon. How ironic that the NBA tried so hard to crack down on players in the 80s and 90s, that they failed to address the referees. I'd bet that there are more criminal / crooked / felon referees than players.

To be fair, he's in part a "felon" because he was an NBA referee... as they found loop-holes with the plane tickets they were getting for work that they could sell, and this led to some tax issues. There were several NBA referees implicated... Mauer just happens to be the only one still around.

Its not like he was a felon first, and then got hired by the NBA.

Exactly my point, the NBA is a crooked organisation that turns people into shady felons ;)
