This exact same group of refs did the first Clippers and Spurs game last Sunday, and I have not seen that many whinners from either teams than the last 2 pages of this thread.

If we have to rely on referees to win the game then we don't deserve to win.

I can't wait for someone with courtside seats to physically assault this man.

I know some like Ed Hochuli, Mike Carey, and Gene Steratore.

Those who watch the NFL would most likely recognize them even if they don't know their name:

Anyone think Mavs fans are up there going "Sweet! It's Mauer and Malloy!"?

Mike Carrey is the only NFL ref I can identify. Nicknamed him Ty Willingham actually.

    You don't recognize Ed Hochuli?

He's probably the most well-known because he's muscular, wears tight shirts, and looks like he's flexing when he makes a call.

I'm not really sweating Mauer. I don't like him, but the Rockets have won most of the games he's reffed this season. And the last one he officiated, they shot 50 free throws....on the road! The only reason that game was a 3-point win and not a blowout was because the Rockets made only 31 of those attempts. That's on them, not the officials.

And one other thing. If the game is close at the end and Harden drives to the bucket and gets fouled, does anyone think Mauer will swallow the whistle this time? I doubt it given the spotlight that'll be on him if it costs the Rockets the game.

If they come out and just play their game, they'll be fine. Mauer isn't gonna be the deciding factor in favor of the Mavs.

Right lol. If you even glance a social media, it's evident that every team thinks the big name refs are out to get them.

For what it's worth I live in Dallas and on ESPN Radio Dallas they were pretty unhappy with the ref choice also.

One fan base will be ok with the choice. I'll let you know after the game. ;)

From the 1999-2000 season through the 2014-15 season there has been 19,475 regular season NBA games played.

Of those 19,475 regular season games, only a grand total of 50 of those games did one of the teams playing shoot 5 or less free throws. That is an occurrence rate of a little over one-quarter of 1% or 0.2567% to be more precise.

Of those 50 regular season games played in the NBA since the 1999-2000 season that have resulted in a team shooting 5 or fewer free throws only 5 times did the team's opponent shoot more free throws against them then the Bulls shot (30) against the Rockets on January 5, 2015.

None of those teams had a player that was as prolific at getting to the free throw line as James Harden.

Ken Mauer officiated in 2 of those top 7 games of greatest free throw disparity since 1999-2000.

Guys, that Bulls game was an absurd, ridiculous joke. Silver (like his predecessor) is doing a poor job of preventing these kinds of game matchups. Mauer has no business officiating the Rockets tonight.

Here's the link if you want to look at these game logs:

On the one hand, less fouls is bad for James. On the other hand, Dwight can really go to work if he doesn't have to worry about getting called for every bump.

Ok I'm sure your data is a legitimate trend indicator regarding Mauer or any ref, but the Rockets should not depend on the reffing crew to win.

Even in the Memphis game, I agree that Harden got hacked at the end. But that doesn't matter. The Rockets put themselves in that position for a call (or no call) to determine the outcome.

Good teams take care of business regardless. The 2003 Sacramento Kings are the exception. They truly got robbed.

The 2005 Rockets against the Mavericks...yeah..game 5 was terrible, but STILL the Rockets had their chances. They went up 2-0 against the Mavs ON THE ROAD!!! and couldn't even win 1 of the 2 games at Home? Please....that's unacceptable.

The Rockets needs to be focused and play great team defense tonight. I believe the shots will fall and take care of themselves as long as the defensive focus is there. That is the way for the Rockets to win convincingly...with or without Mauer making the calls.

So we'll be 1-1 going into Dallas? I guess I'll take it.
