if you blow a game-changing call in the final seconds, you shouldn't be allowed to ref any of that team's playoff games. there is obviously very little accountability for things like that.

I can't find this stat anywhere. Rep for anyone who can find it. I really want to know our record with different referees.

Now that teams use the Hack-a against the Rockets so much the entire dynamic of calls/non calls is a bit different.

Ken Mauer has refereed in 4 Rockets games this year. They are:

    Apr. 5: @OKC W 115-112 Rockets: 50 fta, OKC: 26 fta. Harden: 13 fta

    Mar.25: @NOP W 95-93 Rockets: 12 fta, NOP: 32 fta, Harden: 9 fta

Mar. 4: vs. MEM L 102-100 Rockets: 5 fta, MEM: 17 fta, Harden: 2 fta

    Nov.24: vs. NYK W 91-86 Rockets: 19 fta, NYK: 15 fta, Harden: 7 fta

    I can't really see a pattern.

Ken Mauer is also in the category of Joey Crawford, Steve Javie and others who are very strict and unforgiving. Cannot be a coincidence! Harden will not get calls, Dwight will get ****ed again and phantom calls will be abound.

Check out this site I found probably a year ago. It's a gold mine:

You can bet Cuban called this one in. He wants homecourt badly.

    Some stats on Ken Mauer.

Home teams lost 55% of the games he was the official for. He's only 1 of 5 officials in the NBA out of 40 something with enough games to count where the home team has a losing record.

Similarly, he calls more fouls against the home team than the road team, and at 50.6 he has the highest mark against the home team of any official that has referred more than like 5 games as the head official.

Ken Mauer has also been fined by the NBA for an altercation with a player in which he apparently called a player a little b**ch.

His partner tonight is Ed Malloy, who is also terrible. You can scan twitter and find fans freaking out over the blind bat boys missing calls while they look right at them.

The pattern is road vs home as his stats show. At home against Memphis was a total travesty.

The Rockets are 3-1 with Ken Mauer this year. But one thing I noticed is that every game was close.

The biggest difference is the win against the Knicks... and that was only a 5 point game.

    3 point win
    2 point win
    2 point loss
    5 point win

Maybe his thing is keeping games close....

I'm really surprised Rockets are 6-6.5 favorites. I think they'll be looking for Dallas to cover which as me worried.

Good point. I didn't notice the home/road thing.

Damn, not hearing good things about Mauer. Rockets better come out looking to blow these jokers out.

How messed up is it that people who watch the NBA know the refs and their tendencies enough to fear that they might try to involve themselves with the game? Refs are ideally supposed to be anonymous, just part of the field or court, but you see Joey Crawford's name or this guy's name come up and you start thinking, "Aw hell, that sumbitch is going to try something tonight, isn't he?"

Mauer and Malloy are two of the WORST officials. VERY troubling!

The thing about Crawford is at least you know that it's about attention for him. I don't believe he really favors one over the other as much as Ken Mauer.

Example, a lot of officials have a home team winning% in the 60s. Mauer's is in the 40s! Crawford is right at 55%. His issue seems to be more about making sure everyone knows he is there, while Mauer seems to put a finger on the scale to help the road team.

I was happy with Joey Crawford being the referee for the first game.

Joey seems to like to take care of the "stars". I didn't think Harden would have any trouble getting to the line with Crawford as the referee.

Since Harden was in the MVP race this season, I had no doubt that Crawford would see it in the best interest of the NBA to make sure Harden gets foul calls.

He did a good job in game 1.
