Since Moes kind of posed the question in the other thread, are any book readers planning on stopping watching the show once it surpasses the books, choosing to read the books first? I'm not, and I don't think many others are, but I'm curious to see if I'm wrong.
that might be an eternal wait, hell no i'm not waiting also, even though grrm has told the creators the end, i think he changes it along the way in completing his books, if that ever happens
Definitely not. Especially since I might not watch the end of the show for 5-6 years. Odds are in that span of time I'll be spoiled by something just from people talking about the show. So then it will have been pointless.
Really!! It seems to reached a point where GRRM is just Trolling readers He seems so pissed they brought up the fact that he may die before he finished . . now he seems like. . . "I'M NOT EVEN TRYING TO FINISH YOU, *SSHOLES!!" The Next book maybe like 3~5 yrs off. . . .I dunno if he will finish the books before the series ends. Rocket River
So they are straying from the books further as I see in the leaked episodes. When will the rest will be leaked, end of 4th left me hanging.
So I was thinking about the Gendry (where is he?) blood sacrifice. Two of the three usurpers that were to be killed are dead (Joffrey and Robb), only Balon Greyjoy remains. Of course we know that he dies of suspicious circumstances, but it seems odd to have even included this in the TV adaptation if Balon doesn't die until next season. Who besides the book readers will even remember the connection to Gendry? Also it isn't like they died a totally off-the-wall death like Renly, so I doubt most folks would even notice. Bottom line, it seems to be an excessive detail that should have been written out of the show. What a waste ---------- Similarly, do you guys think the Hardhome subplot will be included?
Hell . . .. Balon been seen like once.. . . I don't think they even reference the IRON BORN in like 2 seasons . . . .. [hyperbole] No DampHair . . . . . Rocket River
Shows starting to seriously diverge. Ja'Qen in house of black and white? Brienne meets Sansa? Jaime and Bronn with a complete new plot-line? Thoughts?
The Ja'Qen thing didn't bother me. They have to have someone in there to train Arya and it might as well be him to keep non-readers on some kind of continuity. The Brienne and Sansa thing was weird. If Brienne just runs into the Brotherhood Without Banners on her way to following Littlefinger it is going to feel weirdly unnecessary. But maybe they are going a completely different place with her. If there is no Lady Stoneheart, it might make sense for her to never encounter the Brotherhood w/o Banners. Definitely gonna be a fan of the Jaime/Bronne road trip and they already have two pure gold scenes between Varys and Tyrion, so I'm enjoying those diversions from the book. I didn't like the way they just totally blew past the Lord Commander election. Within like a 10 minute span the viewer is told there will be an election, and then Jon wins. No real tension. Good speech by Sam but all the cool behind the scenes stuff he did in the book to work people against each other to get Jon elected was chopped. And I have no idea why they decided to have Arya get turned away at the door and spend a day wandering Braavos for no reason. Just get her into the House of Black and White and put some additional padding in there, if need be. First two episodes have been a bit underwhelming by this shows standards (which means it still blows away everything else on TV). Hope it picks up soon.
interesting dynamic they have created in Dorne. Ellaria taking on the Arianne role, but with intent to do harm as opposed to Queening her. I wonder if they plan to adapt the Oakheart / Hotah "fight". At least all these adaptations keep all the book readers on their toes... Victarion is the most disappointing omission for me. Based on the pace they are moving, doesn't seem worth holding out hope for more iron born content in season 6.
they are ding themselves a disfavor by not playing up the drama in things like jon being elected as lord commander and kevan lannister putting cersei in her place, but those were moments i thoroughly enjoyed sam dissing on janos slynt was great
I think Jaqen just let Arya wander to test her resolve. Show is really going off the rails now, but I'm completely OK with it. The books just came to a mind numbingly slow and boring pace after the initial trilogy. Instead of introducing new characters, they have just decided to repurpose established TV characters. Particularly cool characters like Bronn, Jaqen, and Varys. No Greyjoy sideplot, no lady stoneheart, no Jamie wandering, no Cersei overload. They want to keep the plot as tight as possible without the fat that killed the books (IMO can't speak for everybody). Some bookreaders loved that stuff, but most of us knew that crap wasn't gonna fly on the TV show. Episode 2 was really good to me, much better than the premiere. Business picks up when Arya and Bronn hit the screen, even Kevan came off cool.
I can see how they'd think Jaime's clean-up tour wouldn't make good television. I think it works in the books, but fine. That's a lot of original material they're going to have to write though. I should also not be surprised that Ja'qen was used again because I know a lot of people were crying about him not ever showing up again. I think it's better without him. I think Arya's storyline is better for always getting thrown into new situations with people she doesn't know and having no one she trusts.
I agree that they should have made it a bigger deal to get Jon elected though I was cheering Sam with his speech. I'm okay with how Arya's side is getting handled. But I'm also confused on where they're going with Brienne and Sansa. Then again it's cool because it makes it all new to me too. Plus I also found the 4th book extremely boring.
To be fair, Jaqen H'ghar does "show up" again in the books. He's the Alchemist that kills Pate at the beginning of Feast for Crows and then poses as him at the end of the book when he meets Sam.
No Varys in Westeros . . . . but Tywin's brother is still there .. . hhhmmm Arya went all Qui Chang Kane on us . . .. take the pebble from my hand - surprising Alot of Divergence here Rocket River
