My truck got slightly beat up by the hail from Sunday night. Damage on the roof and hood. Not too bad, but still it's there Question is: did anyone else get hit? If so, are you claiming? My truck is 10 years old and I'm debating since I don't want to pay the $500 deductible and see my premiums go up. I also need to check the roof of my house when I get off work today
We got it pretty bad around 8PM last night, but both of cars are garaged. Will be checking the roof today and fixing the fence this weekend since the winds blew it down as well. Ready for some damn sun.
I was headed to a friends house right down the street for drinks and bbq just as it started hailing. Once I heard that first "clink" on the roof of my truck I hauled ass back to the house and under my carport. Just in time too, because we got bean sized hail pretty heavy for at least 5-10 minutes straight. Don't think it was enough to damage the roof though.
As someone who went through a major hailstorm last May, if you plan on getting your roof repaired be warned. The roofing industry is about as corrupt as it gets especially after major hailstorms. The amount of guys who drift into town trying to take advantage of unsuspecting home owners is staggering. CHECK REFERENCES! Go with local guys OR someone recommended to you by a friend/relative. Also, get your booking in ASAP, otherwise you'll be waiting a while. Good luck.
We were covered for our roof, shed, windows, air conditioner, siding, gutters, and other minor damage 100% less our deductible. We did have to call our insurance company to do an inspection. A lot of the roofers will insist they be there to "fight" for you to get everything covered. Basically, they want the bill to be as high as possible so they benefit. Again, be wary of roofers. Find a reputable one quickly and try to have THEM there when the insurance adjustor does their inspection.
Thanks for the info TheresTheDagger, I'll keep that in mind. Luckily, roof was fine, as I'm assuming most ppl were as well. I've decided not to claim the truck and just deal with the dings
I say, have the insurance company look at the damage and give you an estimate. You can either take the check minus the deductible or pass. The adjuster counts the dings and add to the claim by the number and size of the dings. Your rates don't go up since it's not a driving accident.
We had near ping pong sized hail at my house. Luckily I don't care about my Honda. I certainly wouldn't make a claim on a 10 year old vehicle. Had that hail gotten much bigger, we would have been in a very serious situation. I had never seen anything like that in my lifetime in Houston. I actually slightly burned my chicken I was cooking cause the hail was so intense.
Baseball sized hail, I'm fixing a few windows this week. I don't have to thin out my peach trees, god did it for me...half of them are on the trees, the other half are on the ground. My handmade greenhouse doesn't have a dent on it. Proud of that.
If anybody has any roofing damage, i'm good friends with the owners of a roofing company who will give you a free estimate. Facebook - With a recent post about the damage done in the Houston/Tomball/Montgomery area https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rock-Roofing-and-Construction/147921118665002 The website - They have multiple locations (Dallas, Houston, Austin, Jackson) http://www.rockroofingandconstruction.com/ Many people have hail damage but insurance doesn't want to pay, i'v seen many people who had real damage get their claims denied or be told there wasn't any serious damage, they sue and most of the times replace or fix your roof with very little if any cash out of pocket. Basically lot of the times, new or fixed roof for very cheap or free. Check it out bro's if you or somebody you know has suspicion or knowledge of hail damage. Ask for Shawn or Dalton and make sure to tell them you where recommended by Nick
Last year we had a huge hailstorm in the DFW area. I wasn't going to call the insurance company since I didn't "see" any damage and didn't have any leaks, but it seemed like 70% of my neighborhood was getting a new roof, so I got a bit scared and figured I'd call the insurance company and a recommended roofing company in the area to inspect the roof together. I figured my premium may go up with all the claims in the area whether I filed a claim or not, so what the heck. I figured I was going to get reamed since I have a 2% deductible for hail damage. In the end I don't believe I ended up paying anything. My rates did go up a bit, but I know people that got a new roof that had their premiums go down bigtime afterwards.
I'm an agent in the Houston area, if anyone has any questions about their policy/claims you can ask me. Also helps that my dad has worked in claims for the same company for over 20 years.
My car got dinged up on Friday night, I was wondering how this would affect resale value, it's a 2013 Mustang GT, worried about a future carfax showing hail damage and getting people scared off. The damage isn't that bad, maybe around 20 dings on roof and hood. I'm meeting my insurance adjuster tomorrow.
Roof age is now a common factor in insurance premiums, and 1 insurance claim usually doesn't hurt you that much (but a 2nd one is painful).
Only if it's a weather claim, a non-weather claim (ex: theft) will kill you, it's really not even worth it to file a theft claim, unless it's like 5x your deductible, because you'll be paying that back in premium for the next 5 years. 3 non-weather claims in 3 years will get you non-renewed as well.
