ClutchFans Game Thread: Mavericks @ Rockets 4/18/2015 (Playoffs Round 1, Game 1)

McHale needs to trust Johnson to play defense like he did against Wall, and then put him on Monta/ JJ. Harden can guard Rondo.

 

The Rockets are getting good at having Smith and TJones as secondary creators after Harden gives up the ball. From the beginning of this year when only Harden could create, that's a huge improvement. Of course, we'll have to see how they do against stouter defenses.

I thought our best coaching move came when we sat Smith down immediately after DAL started to hack him. Brewer fouled Rondo in order to take Smith out and put Terry in. After that, the Mavs couldn't foul anyone.

Dwight looked like a horse chomping at his bit to get out of the gate. He has to adjust to how the fouls are being called against him; avoid those illegal screens. But we've gotten so used to playing without him, nothing fazed us at all. The beauty of having a lot of veterans

 

Can I get a gif of Smoove pulling the chair out from under Dirk?

 

McHale with some good coaching adjustments in game, let's hope we can do the same in game 2.

Anybody notices this about Terrence Jones? He scrunches his body up and loses 3-4 inches of height with his bad posture which negates his length and full 6'9 frame. He should see a posture and back therapist like Amare' did.

 

Can anyone post the full post game interview with Dwight and Jason Terry? only saw a minute of it on nba.com

 

It was a good win but my concern is the Mavs missed a lot of shots on open looks all night long and made a lot of dumb mistakes...and were still in the game until it got away late. I expect the Mavs may be more like that second quarter team than what we saw. Our defense does deserve credit, though. I think the Rockets can play better as well but we need Dwight on the floor more. The home court advantage worked out well in this game for the most part as it translated into energy for the Rockets.

Jones should absolutely not defend Dirk for the rest of the series, he was giving me flashbacks of Aldridge last year. Start Josh and only play Jones when Dirk is off the floor.

 

I thought James did an excellent job guarding Dirk.

 

Uh, Clutch. You may wanna correct the spelling on the front page. Dwight blocked 5 SHOTS, not sh-ts.

 

It's crazy to think that Harden didn't even really go off this game. 24 points, but 11 assist.

Dwight only played 17 mins, due to foul trouble. Horrible calls made him too.

Brewer I knew was going to start scoring, I saw he only had 2 points at the end of the 3rd.

Terry was amazing, he was knocking those threes down with ease. Can tell he live for these moments.

TJ played amazing, missed a couple bunnies... but so did Mavs.

Smith didn't have a great game, but that's a good point of a series.

Overall, amazing team win. Greatly improved team since last years.

They were fouling the player with the ball. Simple 1 plus the bonus. The differing rule is intentionally fouling off the ball in the last two of regulation.
