Its not that easy. Harden & Howard can both have a great series but we realistically lose if nobody else plays well. I'd go as far to say the play of our role players is MORE important than whether our stars play at a elite level. Carlisle's sole focus will be to stop Harden. If guys like Smooth, Terry or Brewer don't play well we are screwed. Morey thinks superstars make or break a teams chances of winning. Not true. The ability of a superstar to play well is contingent on the role players & coach putting him in that position. Last year, Lopez did all the little things that put Lillard in a position to hit that dagger. My question is who's gonna be our Robin Lopez against Dallas?
lol come on, if Howard and Harden play well and the role players play well we can beat the Warriors nevermind the Mavs.
Interesting to hear Josh has "had issues with the coaches". I'm sure its minor, but still interesting. As for the rest of the question about Smith and Brewer coming in, it's ironic that Morey has always been sacrificing the idea of quality role players for the possibility of that third star, yet he finally gets a couple role players and they become a huge part of why we're this good. Hope both of them come back, though it's doubtful.
I swear to God, whenever I read your posts I have to remind myself that this team is 56-26 and won the division. Given your criteria, we could beat anybody in the NBA.....not just the Mavs.
Here's a link to the full hour: http://www.sports790.com/onair/the-proper-gentlemen-of-sports-52356/rockets-gm-daryl-morey-in-studio-13511958
You have to listen to the interview. The transcription is off a little with regard to the "tone" of his trouble in the stands. On the listen you get the feeling he himself was the issue. Not a big deal.
Thanks for the link. Daryl texted me today to tell me he gave my theatre a shout out for the play he saw there last night. I was just going to look for it in the transcript but I think it must have fallen into the "some garbage" portion of the transcript. No complaints here though. I'm always so grateful to those that provide these transcripts since I don't typically have time to listen and anyway, talk about theatre on an interview going into the playoffs, is indeed irrelevant for these purposes. Very appreciative of the shoutout though. And there will be more down the line... Yesterday Daryl and my favorite playwright and I finalized the deal on a theatre project that I expect will be of interest to all basketball fans. But that's a ways away and the playoffs are tomorrow. So thanks for the link and thanks for the transcript even if the part that referred to my theatre is "some garbage."
I'm almost positive that was in regards to Josh having issues with coaches in Detroit. By all accounts, he LOVES the coaches here in Houston.
Agreed, between that and his lame impersonations I find him for the most part unlistenable. I stay on 610 until 2pm...
I think we might have differing definitions of superstars. I have the definition reversed. Superstars impose their will and their play is contingent upon what they will themselves to do on the court. Role players ability to play well is contingent on the superstars ability to impose their will, not the other way around.
It definitely wasn't Harden's fault but maybe he's blaming Harden because he told Chandler and Bev to switch (or not switch? I can't remember) which created confusion.
Awesome - this most recent radio segment is really good. Long, lots of information, and DM addresses some questions that a lot of us fans likely had (free throw shooting, Dorsey's value to the team, etc). Just gets me more amped for tomorrow! Let's gooooooooo!
Morey was talking about Smith's coaches prior to coming to Houston. McHale definitely helped us get Brewer, and Dwight definitely helped us get Smith, in my opinion. With Smith, McHale might be the difference between the guy leaving the Rockets or staying in Houston. He likes it here.
When does Lance get on the air? I forgot cuz I stopped listening to him. I may call one day this week and act like the convo is going well, then diss him.
