Before the regular season began, I felt the offense would be around average to slightly above, and the pitching would be average to slightly below. So far, I had it backwards. Except that the pitching is way above average and the offense way below. By the Allstar break, I expect my original feelings to be right. The club I am seeing right now just doesnt look like the one I thought we had. Its like watching another team.
Baseball these days is all about situational hitting, and it looks like this offense will always be bad in that regard. Not a lot of guys in this order will be bunting runners over, hitting sac flies, hitting to gaps left by the infield shifts, etc. Seems like it'll be an offense that will punish bad pitching from time to time and completely fold against above average to good pitching
As long as we have a lot of guys that consistently strike out at a high rate, this offense will never be a top tier offense.
