BOB's offense uses RBBC. Like a 20/30/50 split. So, not sure how much I like the idea of blowing a high pick on an RB. Mostly just need somebody who can catch the ball and block.
That's exactly what I'm thinking. I like gurley, but this is a deep rb class, take advantage of that depth with a late round selection and draft premier positions early.
Does anybody feel like we could still possibly get McKinney from miss. st with our pick in the second round? And does anybody know about any potential rumblings on DGB? I really feel like this kid is exactly the WR we need but comes baggage.
Seems like there are more guys in the top couple of rounds with character issues than is usually the case. Assuming they don't change, Texans need teams to gamble on talent so that guys they will take drop. If all the 4 "good character" pass rushers get taken and the Texans pass on Gregory and take a second tier guy too early... that will be hard to swallow.
Most teams depending on 1st year rookie players probably aren't going to be a playoff team anyway. The draft is usually about the future more so than the draft year. How good was the Texans running game without Foster...??? The Texans have mediocre QB's. If you have a stud QB than you can probably just throw any RB back there but they don't. RB's may have been devalued but their importance on the field hasn't. Teams can still win and go deep in the playoffs by running the ball and teams who do that (without a dominant QB) usually have at least one stud RB in the group.
Vic Beasley is the one and only guy the Texans should trade up for, imo. Trade #16 and somehow convince another team to take on Whitney Mercilus along with filler. Can't blame a person for dreaming. As for the RB position, the Texans would be better off drafting David Johnson in the 3rd round. Running backs no longer have possess high value and drafting one in the 1st results in a wasted pick.

According to whom... This is Gurley we're talking about here. Dude fits the AP/LT mold and neither one of them were wasted 1st round picks. It's usually only a handful to a baker's dozen of players drafted in the 1st round that turn out to be worth being drafted in the 1st round anyway regardless of position. But I just saw a report that Gurley will be ready to play by training camp so he will probably be already gone by the time the Texans draft. Probably won't even make it out of the top 10.
Can't blame ya, but I can be honest with ya, I don't find that scenario to be very realistic. I would bet my next paycheck on Vic not sliding out of the top 10, but if he did, why not?

I like Ekpre-Olomu. He will be ready when Joseph is on his way out. Beastly is a dream but I guess it is a possibility.
According to walterfootball.com, the Texans have met with Marcus Peters and will meet with Randy Gregory before the draft. Both are notable "problem children" in the draft (Peters had multiple temper tantrums and fought with coaches, and Gregory failed multiple drug tests including 1 at the combine and had other, vaguely referred to "problems" at Nebraska). Are the Texans thinking about stepping away from the "choir boy" identity?
