I know in his first game he looked good, but I have a bad feeling that Feldman is due for a major regression year. I think he's gonna fall off the map this season and I'm worried management will be very slow recognizing it. Hope I'm wrong.
Why would you expect that? Over the last 4 seasons his FIP has been 4.00, and his ERA has been 4.12, Feldman has been consistently OK. He just turned 32, there is no real reason to expect him to start sucking.
FIP, on average goes up by about 0.3 at age 32. That would put him around a FIP of 4.40. Feldman would still be usable if he ages like a normal 32-year-old player. He could certainly perform well for his age and stick around a 4.10 FIP. Now if his velocity dips (he doesn't have much velocity to spare) with age or he gets a little dinged up, he could easily perform poorly for his age and put up a FIP in the 4.70 range. I personally think he will pitch in the 4.1 to 4.4 FIP range, but I will continue watching his velocity. So far his velocity is about what it was last year.
That was a quick hook for Wojo, although I suspect he'll be back up in a couple weeks. Peacock is like Fernando Abad without the first A.
Hinch didn't really have a choice... Feldmans outing was so bad and they used up all the relief pitchers the previous game, he decided to finish the game with wojo, who was scheduled to start the next day.... Since that was the case , hich needed a replacement starter for tomorrow and calling up peacock made sense. One player had to be sent down to the minors for the corresponding move
No analytics or anything. Just strictly eye test. I never really liked his stuff and his poor spring made me concerned. I absolutely hope I'm wrong because I think this rotation would suffer a lot if he fell off the map.
That is likely the case, but isn't it wasting an option on Wojo just to get him to toss a few innings in relief? Not sure if that will come back to bite the front office. I'm also not big on the fact that he pitched lights out in spring training, has one below average start where he got no help from the offense or defense, and then gets the hook. Just don't believe that's the best way to bring a young guy through the organization.
More than likely, even though he pitched well, the only reason he made the team out of Spring Training was due to the injuries to Oberholzer and Peacock. I strongly suspect he was told that from the beginning and the only surprise is (due to circumstances) he was sent down today instead of in a week or two.
agree...Oberholzer wasn't going to lose his spot because of his injury . In addition to obi, peacock and fields were all DLed so there will have to be other moves mad. Wojo still has a few options and became the logical choice to send back down. What I DO like about him pitching relief is that he got some quality "no pressure" innings in under his belt which looked good to the Astros staff--if anything, he only helped his case yesterday and will probably be called back soon enough
Considering that rotations in the majors are having to have 8-10 pitchers start in seasons lately, MLB teams are going to need 3-5 starting pitchers that have options or can pitch in relief in a given season. Woj is definitely one of these 3-5 guys this season so definitely not a wasted option.
Didnt Billy Beane want Peacock back? Maybe Lunhow is teasing him for a retrade. Haha. Peacocks gonna strut and present himself tonight for that to happen.
We are just gonna have to score runs period, pitching is not gonna allow for low production offensively.
