I don't like Mrs. Clinton, but I expert her to be president. You've been pretty steadfast that she will lose barring a disaster of a candidate.

Would you please respond with an affirmative or negative response to the question "Will this candidate defeat Hilary Clinton if they win the Republican nomination?" for the following list:

    Marco Rubio
    Rand Paul
    Ted Cruz
    Jeb Bush
    Chris Christie
    Donald Trump
    Carly Fiorina
    Susanna Martinez
    Lindsay Graham
    Ben Carson
    Paul Ryan
    John Thune
    Mike Pence
    John Kasich
    Scott Walker

I think I've covered all "mainstream" potentials. I'm interested to see which ones you consider as sure things against Hilary and which ones you consider disaster candidates.

Of those that I know enough about to give any opinion at all, I think Walker, Ryan, Rubio, and Paul would have a good shot at beating Hillary. We'll know a lot more closer to the primaries though.

Of those I know enough about to give an opinion at all, I think Bush, Christie, Cruz, and Trump would all be big enough jokes to almost certainly hand the election to Hillary.

So have you officially walked back from "if the Republicans can come up with anything better than a total disaster of a candidate, they'd coast to an easy win."

Actually I haven't, you and your reading comprehension problems.....

The issue is that there isn't a lot of non-total disaster Republican candidates and of those that aren't outright total disasters, there are several that could easily become total disasters. Again, we'll know a lot more closer to the primaries.

I bet this time in 2008 you were thinking Hillary would run away with the Democratic nomination too.....

I don't think Hilary will win the Democratic Primary. Somebody will rise to defeat her. She's basically a neo-conservative. That and a pathological liar.

Looks like bobbythegrape is doing all he can to be this year's jopatmc.

Better start thinking about what your new moniker will be after the election.

Still seems like you are backing away from your earlier statement about GOP candidates will coast to an easy win.

But even looking at your last statement "I bet this time in 2008 you were thinking Hillary would run away with the Democratic nomination too."...

CNN poll had Obama leading 46-45 at the end of April 2008. CBS/NY Times had Obama leading 46-43 at the end of April and 50-38 in the beginning of May. Pew had Obama leading 47-45 at the end of April. Newsweek had Obama ahead mid April. So did USA Today, Zogby, ABC News... heck, even as early as March Obama was polling ahead of Clinton.

So no... no one was thinking Clinton would run away with the nomination at this point of time.

You would need to look at polls from 2007.

Now your position is that the Republican field is composed of total disasters and candidates that could easily become total disasters, but just yesterday you were confidently posting "Hell just the fact that some people think she has a chance of winning is hilarious in itself."

The problem isn't my reading comprehension. The problem is your incoherent positions.

As for my thinking at this point in the run up to the 2008 election- I didn't have any strong feelings one way or the other about Hillary, but I sure didn't think Obama would win the nomination and if he did I didn't think he could win in the general election. Thankfully I was wrong on both counts.

Yeah, that was my point, it's REALLY early. For all we know there will be a good Democratic candidate that will arise and take the nomination. As to the Republican nomination, it's just too early to tell who is even in the race.

Saying that Hillary is a bad candidate isn't a controversial opinion, but we know how this board leans.

You are correct and my mistake. Looking at polling in April 2007, Clinton was polling ahead. Though Rasmussen had it Clinton 34-27 in April. CNN had Clinton ahead 30-26. USA Today had it 31-26 when Gore was included.

So while Clinton was favored, and other polls had a bigger differential... but Obama was getting support. Including from me, as I was an early supporter.

Your failure to comprehend my position isn't a sign that it was incoherent, merely that you aren't very good at this sort of thing. Me leaving open the possibility that the Republicans could screw up badly enough to where Hillary could win despite being a terrible candidate in no way conflicts with my opinion that Hillary would be fairly easy to defeat barring a total disaster.

Clinton has baggage. But what candidate doesn't? The challenge with GOP criticisms of Clinton is that they have been criticizing her so much and so early that most will have been debunked or long forgotten by the time the GOP names their candidate. At which time the criticisms of that candidate will get the attention.

But you go with the "GOP will coast to a victory".

The sheer amount of baggage Hillary has would almost certainly cost her the election if she won the nomination. She's old, she's not charming, she's not attractive, her past is one of failure.....she's a terrible candidate. Simple as that. I'm sure Republicans are pulling for her to win the nomination.

Yeah, I didn't really want to make it sound like I agreed with him. Obama then was kind of like Warren now, but with the will to run.

Bobby and basketballahollic (the artist formally know as jopatmc) do have a few characteristics in common, but where they differ is that jopat doubled down every time his ludicrous predictions proved wrong, right up to the day before the election, where as Bobby is already back tracking. Still, I'd say the potential for another epic meltdown is there, if empirical reality fails to conform to the wingnut castles he is building in his head.
