I totally agree that top level talent can be promoted to the bigs for the playoffs...but I have a really difficult time seeing how Correa could possibly bypass AAA to get to the majors so that he could be there when the Astros are making a push for the playoffs. Not only do I think Luhnow would never do that (despite saying he has no issues promoting players), but I also think that it would actually be detrimental to the team if the hope is that Correa would come in and propel them into the playoffs.

I think Appel has a decent shot at making the roster this season, but my focus is more on Correa because there seems to me a lot of talk and hope that CC will be on the Astros roster by seasons end.

Actually I've heard there is more talent in AA than AAA. Most of AAA is riddled with players who can't hack in the majors.

Jose Altuve started the 2011 season in Class A Advanced and finished it in Houston after jumping from AA.

Players in AA may have a higher ceiling for sure...but they still have to refine their craft compared to AAA players.

Most regular AAA players are ones that either can't, or never will, stick in the big leagues (the AAAA player)... so is their craft really all that refined?

Yeah I get that, but Im just wondering if they would do it if we were, say, out of contention by then. Wouldnt they try to mess with the service clock like they did with Springer? I would love if he got called up this year, but im just wondering if they would actually do it.

My guess is whenever he's deemed "ready", they'll try to get him to sign a deal that covers arbitration and some free agency... like they tried to do with Springer and that they successfully did with Singleton.

Random question: do the Astros minor league teams employ the shift?

In Quad Cities, Jake Nottingham just hit his 1st homer of the year to tie the River Bandits' game with Clinton at 1.

DD = DaDakota = Eric Peterson (real name) = coincidental same name as an Astros minor league pitcher.
