A spinal hernia? Is that like a herniated disc or is that something else? Hopefully he comes back fully recovered. Luckily D-Mo doesn't really rely on explosiveness for his game. He's more about fundamentals and footwork.

If it's anything similar to Dwight's procedure (what the "translation" indicates), that could be real trouble. Dwight had his procedure in the spring of 2012, and he was nowhere close to his old self until 18+ months later, in Houston.

Now granted, D-Mo's game isn't nearly as dependent on athleticism as Dwight's was/is. But that's a concerning comparison.

The speed of the whole process is just crazy. Yesteday, I woke up late in Vegas and heard the local sports radio report that D-Mo was out for the year. I almost crapped in my pants. 24 hours later, and surgery has already been performed. Just nuts.

Guys, it's an ANTI-GRAVITY treadmill....I don't know if the rockets screwed up in handling this, but they just didn't throw him on any old treadmill like some have mentioned in this thread..

I still think a significant cause was the way he boxes out for position. He would anchor his lower body down and then just push back and forth into the opposing player with his back. always looked over matched doing it.

I wish there was video of this to see his form. Looks off, but hard to tell from this picture.

Dmo's game is dependent on a lot of spins/pivoting. That requires good rhythm, coordination, balance, in other words, athleticism. if that's gone, then he's just as screwed as Dwight was, maybe more.

Antigravity or not threadmill if the guy had sciatica from the herniated disc that most people have then it is a wonder that he could even run.
Is there any evidence to suggest that after the surgery DMO will lose his athleticism? This isn't an acl ,as far I know when you come back you are 100%.

Also I know that now it's full on panic and despair mode but maybe later when the spirits have calmed down someone can maybe see that there is a tiny bright side in all this. Next year will be his contract year, and while it totally sucks for DMO himself and for the playoffs this year that most people are focused on, it will make him much more cheaper and affordable for the Rockets to lock in a long contract. Just saying.

Having sciatica doesn't mean you can't run, like ever. For some people it isn't constant or that bothersome. For some it is. I would imagine the most amateur staff would know not to force someone to run, if they report sciatic pain.

A knee issue is like having a bad wheel on a car. It won't allow it to run properly, but that doesn't mean it's the only way to cause improper function of the vehicle. Athleticism is a full body movement, mostly regulated by your core's ability to function. It's safe to say that any problems with the surgery or rehab will affect his ability to move, and therefore, his athleticism. Otherwise, it wouldn't be considered career threatening.

You have sciatica and you can run? Well that's superhuman to me since I have trouble even walking from the pain when it flairs up. So I guess...I'm amazed?
Anyway after this surgery - depending what kind of surgery had be done- but I'm assuming what they did was cut the part of the disc that was protruding- DMO should be back 100% as far I know. Do you have evidence to the contrary from research done or something?
The reason it was career threatening is, because if it wasn't operated it could lead to serious nerve damage and it would be impossible and unsafe for DMO to play proffesionally not because with a succesful surgery there can be lingering problems ( if the condition doesn't reappear of course as it does for a percentage of the patients).

    Whaat?!

Surgery already happened? Damn that was fast!

I hope he had time to get second and third opinions that this is indeed the issue that needed fixing.

He really isn't returning this season... only now was convinced of it. Our bigs rotation with Motiejunas could've been yhe playoffs' best

What's up with Dmo tweets of happiness? I don't see how a guy could be smiling and giggling at a ball game with this happening and knowing the team is hindered by his absence. I don't see the logic.

Dorsey coming for Howard is a big time problem. Yes Jones's last two games haven't been good. But the PF position is not a problem.

I kinda wished that he would rest for longer to see if the problem would start healing by itself. Not that i wanted him to rush back and try to play in the playoffs but generally speaking back surgery is never a sure/good thing. Hopefully he comes out of his rehab stronger than before and has a good amount of time to get in shape/ add strength before next season. I could see him missing the first month of the season in order to fully make sure he is healed.

There was no PF post game for the Rox. Bayne and Duncan went to town in that game if you haven't noticed. Dmo is the closest thing to Duncan for the Rockets. Or LeMarcus Aldridge. or Paul Gasol...

The Lithuanian Lycan will rise again!

Minor setback for a MAJOR comeback!!

I'm not talking about last night's game. Jones has only had 2 bad games this season anyways. Last night was one of them. Dorsey playing backup Center will be a major issue in the playoffs.

Dmo can't touch Duncan with a 10 foot pole. Dude is nowhere close to Duncan. Lol thanks for the laugh big timer. Hahaha
