I think he might have the explosive quickness to stay in front of the Spur's guards compared to the guys near 40....

I think he earned himself more playing time by looking good in garbage time last night. If nothing else, at least we'll get to see him play more on Friday during garbage time.

Jason Terry is the undisputed King of Giving Up And-1s. There's nothing he loves more than obviously - but gently - fouling a guy who is going up for a layup or dunk. And really, he does this better than anyone else in the league.

Love his athleticism - but unfortunately it is spot duty on D for him at best - Until he can consistently knock down 3's

Nick Johnson should be guarding Parker. Nothing else to be said. Not a "omg, play this player because he doesn't play" moment. Re-watch that game and look how badly Terry was getting killed in the pick and roll. You need a player who can play Parker close.

Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but since Bev was lost, I've become more and more convinced of something ...
In the playoffs Harden needs to play true 'PG' a whole lot more

That way McHale can have Ariza & Brewer on the floor together a lot more to guard other team's PG, and we don't have Terry/Prig trying to check 2's (Ellis/Green/Afflalo) or even 3's (Parsons/Kawhi/Batum), or overburden Harden by having him guard the opponents' best wing scorer all night

This would mean KJ McDaniels would now become a key rotation piece at the 2/3 so Brew & Ariza don't have to play 40+ every night, and he could be a secret weapon as a beast to smother guys like Parker when they are lighting us up

Jet/Prig could still split 12-16 mins off the bench when Harden sits, or against opponents' backup PG here and there

Plus we know McHale likes to go small, and I could see us fielding a big, long, quick perimeter-D lineup for stretches with 1 Big, Harden at point on offense, plus Ariza/Brew/KJ swarming the perimeter and seamlessly switching on picks

Not like we haven't seen sudden rotation shakeups in the playoffs from McHale before ...
    - Bev steals Lin's starting job during 1st-rd vs Thunder after being here about 3 months
    - Asik takes TJ's starting job at PF after missing most of the season last year
    - Troy Daniels takes Garcia's backup minutes in the wing rotation after being a reg-season afterthought last year

There are 144 game minutes to distribute among the 1,2,3 positions
This is how I'd like to see McHale allocate them in the playoffs against a team with a star PG:
    Harden - 38
    Ariza - 34
    Brewer - 34
    KJ McDaniels - 22
    Terry - 8
    Prig - 8

PG's are gonna KILL us for the rest of the year and the playoffs if Terry keeps matching up against them...sigh

Agreed Doobies, we NEED Nick to get some serious run on Friday night. And Capela as well. I think we were in single digits for rebounding in that awful-ass 3rd Q last night, and it was magnified when Dorsey replaced Dwight. I tweeted that there was no need for either Baynes or Duncan to jump for rebounds when (after D12) our C is 6'6".

Bev was a lot more valuable than you guys gave him credit. Because even with his recent 3pt struggles, he still wouldn't have let Parker walk thru the lane at will like he did last nite. Bev forced elite guards into inefficient games most notes. That no longer exists.

To the anonymous rep coward and his comment on this post....you do understand that I was, like, making a joke here?

Unless you, too, were joking....but I doubt you were.

Knew I should've put a smiley face with the original post. It wards off Internet clowns (the humor and irony-impaired) like garlic and crosses ward off vampires.

Plays excellent D on JWall vs The Wizards but gets garbage time minutes last night as Parker logic. Exactly what makes McHale a bottom tier coach.

He's easily the best guy we have to defend the likes of Parker. When we're playing at team that has a good player at the 3 (like the Spurs) we can't have Ariza playing D on the PG. Brewer is not a great on-ball defender, especially if he's defending someone like Parker, who drives and kicks. Johnson would be ideal to guard Parker.

Honestly we wasted this season with Johnson. If we had been playing him a bit more throughout the season, he would've been ready for the playoffs, and he probably would be able to contribute. Same could possibly be said for Capela, but I think the D-league was good for him.

1 away loss vs. quite possibly the hottest team in the league right now (the defending champions, mind you) and everyone loses their minds.

    /thread

Defense isn't always won with 1-on-1 matchups. The Spurs have been proving that for the last 2 decades. The Pistons did it so well in the 2000s.

This. This right here. I just don't understand the Cfans mentality of wanting to start guys at the end of the bench. Constantly. All the time. Guys, these gents aren't ready for prime time, and 3 games from the playoffs isn't really when you want to be developing your deep bench players.

Start Prig. If your players can't rotate/cover the Spurs screen game properly, try out a little Nick Johnson action (and continue making Harden weary by pulling full PG duty).

To be fair, we are one L away from dropping to the 6th seed w/ two rotation players out for the season and two more still hampered by their injuries. If there's been a point this season where being in your feelings is justified, I'd say it's now.
