There are a lot of Cubs, Red Sox, and Yankees fans everywhere. Same goes for Braves and Cardinals fans. There aren't a lot of Rangers/Astros fans outside of Texas... and for that matter, there's not a lot of Mariners, A's and Angels fans outside of their respective areas (hell, in two of those respective areas, they play a distinct second banana to other MLB teams).
So, they got their first shut-out and first golden sombrero out of the way. I expect a lot of runs to come.
Scott Feldman pitched great--only 1 ER in 7 innings and the Indians really never threatened otherwise..great to see at least. Tomorrows game with Wojo should be interesting!
True, but the cubs fans actually knew what was going on in the game and were into it. Not saying all of them but for the most part they knew not to cheer when a pop up was an out and not a hr. Couldnt say the same for yankees/red sox 'fans'. I hate them all equally, FYI.
On average, there are far more idiot Cub fans out there... can't blame them for what they've had to "cheer" for all these years.
I miss the stadiums that look like Milwaukee county stadium (where "major league" was actually filmed... Milwaukee, not Cleveland).
The biggest baseball dip****s I've ever encountered were the drunks before, during and after the games at Wrigley. You almost feel bad laughing at them. Like when a clown dies.
Bernie? Just looking at these old ballparks causes me to get a whiff of old beer... vs. the new ones where I get a whiff of gourmet flavored nuts, or a carvery station.
Hell yes! Bernie the Brewer. I always considered Uecker to be a mascot too. Paul Molitor and Robin Yount were 2 of my idols growing up. I never knew I had to hate their owner until a decade or so ago.
That, I understand. Northsiders dont go to Wrigley to watch a game, they go to hang out and drink beers. I wasnt talking about fans at Wrigley. Im talking about transplanted Chicagoans(I think thats what theyre called) here in Houston that cheer for their team.
They're one and the same. I've seen some real idiots at the dome and at MMP. ...Also, they're not all transplanted Chicagoans. Some of them are born/raised Texans that "grew up" watching the Cubs on WGN. Same goes for the Braves "fans."
Gotcha, and I agree. You should go to T.K. Bittermans on W.Alabama if you haven't been. If it still exists, it's a great cub bar. I miss Ernie's too.
Carrasco and Kluber may be the best duo in baseball. At years end I would say taking a split from those two is pretty good. We all knew this team was gonna be feast or famine and was prone to being shut down by great stuff.
I've told this story here before...but the lone time I went to Wrigley, it was among the most apathetic and disengaged crowds I've ever been around. I was there with a friend from Colorado who said the crowds at MMP were far more engaged. I sat in very good seats..presumably season ticket holders would have been around me. I asked about one of the numbers retired...who it belonged to...no one in the rows around me could answer the question. Going to a Cubs game is a place to be...but it's nothing like Fenway, for example, where the fans' interest is akin to college football in the South.
