We could have the worlds greatest "backup" center... but if he's getting significant minutes, it means your starting center isn't all that great either. The Rockets will only go as far as Dwight/Harden can take them. Sure, if you want to be a more well-rounded team that requires their backup bigs to play significant minutes, you can't build a team around a "star" center.
Dorsey did not lose this game. They've won plenty of games where he can't make anything and plays even worse... again, he's a non-factor.
Dorsey and players like him hurt you against the better teams with better coaches who can exploit him being on the floor. He will be a liability against any team that the Rox play in the playoffs.
If Dorsey is playing more than 10 minutes/game in the playoffs, that means Dwight can't play 38+ minutes... so yes, the Rockets will be a weaker team at that point. My entire point relies on this team only needing spot minutes, depending on the matchups on the court, for Dorsey come playoff time... and the same would apply to Capella if McHale decides to elevate him over Dorsey.
but remember we still got smith off the bench. just give dwight, jones and smith 30minutes a game. dont forget small ball lineups that would give the 3 bigs some rest. dorsey only needs to be in there for spot minutes, he wont be a rotation player in the playoffs
I think it would be great if Dwight and Harden were so good they could win games regardless of bench depth but that's asking a lot of them, so I do think wed be better off with a more well rounded team.
True if Capella or Dorsey is playing significant minutes, the Rox are in trouble in the playoffs, but at least Capella is better rim protector and seems to rebound the ball as well if not better than Dorsey at times. Dorsey negatives outweigh his pluses at this point.
When a player should realistically get only 3-5 minutes/playoff game if the game is close, you can throw the +/- out the window.
I have a suggestion: can't we just cut Dorsey and re-activate Josh Powell instead? He's been practising with the team as one of the assistants. I'm sure he can hit FTs. Our big man rotation is starting to scare me this close to the playoffs.
Well, he's not helping us win either. We lost momentum in the 1st when they started hacking him. That will always be a big weight on the team. You can't rest Smith and Jones because you can't trust Dorsey.
Dorsey just seems to be a momentum killer at times when they start hacking him. Momentum can be HUGE, in big games like it was tonight. On top of that he wasn't helping much to keep the Spurs off the boards. He never offers rim protection either. I just feel he will be a liability for the team if he is on the floor against the better teams. I'm currently more upset with Morey for feeling the need to sign Dorsey in the first place. I know there were better options out there for back up center. Oh well...
Again, stop overrating our young players. Capela is not strong enough to play significant minutes at center. Everything he does is based off athleticism. He's still getting pushed around and falling off balance too much. Everything you said was wrong except for him being a better rim protector. But Capela is not the answer yet
these guys ****ing need playing time. capela is a true ****ing rim protector. idgaf if he can't make free throws right now, but he will with confidence soon. nick has shown signs of defense sparks... he's even hit a game winner for us... how the **** can you not play nick on tony tonight? i'll be damned if capela doesn't get more time... we are doomed with dorsey.
They regained an 8 point lead in the 2nd well after the hacking episode, lost that as well. They lost the lead for good with Harden in the game. They weren't going to "blow out" the Spurs (hell, they can't blow out a weakened OKC team, or an awful sacramento team).. when the Spurs turned it up, the Rockets didn't respond, end of game.
So can when the opponent decides to turn up the intensity, and you don't respond. That also "turns momentum".
McHale should start either Dorsey or Capela in the beginning of each quarter and bring Howard in to close out the later half of the quarter when it's approaching team penalty situation. At least there's hope that Howard can make at least one free throws on the intentional foul.
