    Exactly this.

I remember when I hated the new Rockets logo. Definitely don't hate it anymore.

I'm going to go blind after a few nights on that site. Freaking hate "white everything" mindset.

Then again, I only go to check standings and fantasy.

There are studies that show people have come to expect a certain experience from websites of a particular category. That's why sites like walmart.com and target.com have a similar layout and tools. Jcrew.com/gap.com, and so on... ESPN probably didn't define what a sports website should feel like but it did define how an ESPN website should function. ESPN in itself is has a huge user base. Now people feel confused.

That problem aside I feel like it's too mobile-centric. Maybe I'm in the minority but I still prefer to do my surfing on a desktop.

This. espn.com is one of those websites that I check many times a day. I have a hard time getting used to changes like this one. I've gone back to NBA.com for my score updates/news. I haven't really been to that website since the early 2000s..........

ESPN said that 60% of their traffic comes from Mobile, and rising.

Responsive designed sites are being built "mobile first (phone/tablet)" and scaled to desktop.

Their site is essentially the same, just focus on the "middle column." The left and right columns are just 'value adds."

Link colors and story hierarchy do appear to be somewhat a problem in terms of scannability.

I'm familiar with responsive design, it's still something that can alienate people. I'm sure they do get a ton of clicks through their mobile properties. I get ESPN headlines on my phone all of the time. But I bet the traffic that spends the most time on site and visits the highest number of pages comes from a desktop. The people interacting with the site at a high level...

    I'm indifferent to the change.

In technology, people feel alienated all the time due to change. To evolve, you can't be worried about those stuck with one foot in the past. Their user metrics probably drove this decision, and in the long run they'll more than likely see the fruition of their work.

It is certainly better looking and nicer, but the UI for some simple functions needs serious attention.

I spent 10 minutes trying to get to nascar gamecast.

The biggest things I don't like about it is that it takes two clicks and a fair amount of scrolling to get to nba games in progress if it is not on the top bar. Also trying to get to the box scores is harder.

but it is a really nice website if they can get the bugs worked out.

the other thing I don't like is having articles on infinite scroll, one article goes into another

After using it for a week and a half, I have to say I don't like it as much as I originally did. A lot of the functionality just sucks. The main thing I miss from the old site is the old scoreboard. Some of the way the stories are layered, one after another, not a big fan of that either.

yep, the biggest problem with the scoreboard is that you can't scroll it like you used to.

I have to think that they are going to fix that. but right now it sucks.

How do you get to a game box score that is in progress, without having to go through game cast?

Hit the tab for the sport at the top, go to scores. They basically added 2 extra clicks to get to the box scores.

But does that work for games in progress? I've found that I can only get to the box score page after the games are done.

If the game is going on, and you do what you said above, it takes you to the game cast.

I don't get it. Half the time people here are complaining about ESPN hype and bias and yet you all seem to be frequent visitors of the site.

Nobody is going to the site to get the ESPN "opinion", but more to follow games in progress and check scores/highlights.

It also probably has a lot to do with the fact that it was one of the first mainstream sports sites when the world wide web went live, and most people never had the need to leave it... but this is the first change that has been more than noticeable in a bad way.

Nah, over on the right where the "game details" down arrow is there's a tab for box score while the games are ongoing.
