If you can charge in a minute, you won't have to worry about battery life much anymore.

Can someone put this on my Sony? They have such horrible battery life.

This could be gamechanging, wow. Here's hoping this is on the fast track to being put in consumer products.

I imagine this will be nice for larger batteries in the future.

The Stanford researchers are claiming it will be cheaper than lithium ion and they already admitted that it doesn't provide the same voltage yet. This isn't a fly by night company trying to get seed funding. This is an academic institution known for the highest integrity.

One way or another there will be a quantum leap in battery technology soon. There is too much research happening on too many different fronts.

I thought the new battery tech would come from giving millions in government funding to Tesla. Who knows we should have been giving more to research universities.

besides car enthusiasts, who will want a combustion engine in the not too distant future?

if there is a battery that can deliver charging time of a couple minutes or less and go for 500+ miles?

most people just use their cars as utilitarian tools no one is going to miss the combustion engine, honestly.

Well yeah. People will want the option with the most value. Electric isn't there yet but I'm sure 90% of people will consider electric if equal to combustion.

The 10% being car enthusiasts. Also dealing with a plug and go instead of pump stations would be a lot more convenient and more stupid proof.

There is no best place to put funding. Innovation comes from all over the place.

Electric cars don't solve all the problems, the power still has to be generated somewhere, and that is mostly from coal, gas, nuclear etc. The one big advantage is that they shift all emissions away from the tailpipe (and lots of inefficient, poorly maintained cars) concentrated in urban areas, to a centralized power plant, where presumably you can better control the emissions.

Very cool but as a Cal grad I have to say why the heck did it have to be Stanfurd?!

C'mon Cal let's get Lawrence Livermore Labs cranking and beat Stanford to the next great invention.

True, but electric cars are still far more efficient and less polluting.
