Do I "want" the Spurs? Hell no

I wouldn't dread it, though. We match up well with them at the very least. Obviously DAL, POR, or LAC are preferable, though.

The mavs of course they don't play defense. We can slow our game down to beat them and our d is waaaay better.

The spurs have never been a team I've worried about for some reason. I've always felt we were to fast paced for them

I want the 2nd seed. If they fall to 7th, then I want to face them. I definitely want to face them at some point in the playoffs. We've beat them in our 2 prior championships during the playoffs, so facing them is good luck. We've also never lost a playoff series to them. That's not going to change this year.

To be fair, we had Lin on that squad.

there are teams you prefer and if rockets face spurs and lose first round that would be more pity party for rockets when spurs are a good team.

The flipside is you have to believe you can beat anyone and cant hide from anyone. I think to the championship teams and the fact that you will need to beat good teams if you are worth your salt.

I think we matchup fine with SA although pundits seem to think leonard would stop harden. maybe but I would be more concerned about spurs ability to play team ball and the half court. We could get outwitted for sure.

    Personally I would like to play portland to avenge last years playoffs and get some momentum. Next I would love the chance to knock out mavs just to beat them. If we play SA we have a genuine 50/50 chance.;

I think a clippers matchup is favor to clips and would prefer 3rd round. I would prefer WCF for warriors as well.

I think we would lose to warriors or clippers just a matter of when we face them.

That is - Unless howard and harden have a pick and roll epiphany. Saved it for the playoffs secret weapon kinda thing

So where do the spurs have to fall seeding wise to play the warriors in the 2nd round?

Tim Duncan has never faced the Rockets in the playoffs; he's damn near eliminated half the league in the playoffs. I'd like to be the only team he's never beaten but it'd be a hell of a challenge.

Dallas, San Antonio, LAC. As long as we keep the 2/3/5/6 seed, I couldn't care less. They're all good teams and we have to beat one.

Best record team gets the easiest route. That means facing winner of 4 and 5 in the second round, rather than being in same bracket as the 2 and 3.

So, Spurs would need to be 5th seed to face GSW.

I want Spurs to get 5th seed then. I want them to knock off the Warriors.

With your route, that has both last years champ and this years champ getting swept by a team during the regular season.

Why not? If you can't beat the Spurs- you don't deserve to advance.

Agreed. I'm not rooting for us to match up with any West team -- they're all tough enough that with the possible exception of GSW no upset would be that surprising. Matchups will play a huge role as in any 7 game series and we match up with SAS as well as any other Western playoff team. No matter who we draw the team will have to be better than it's ever been just to get out of the first round.

Go through the list and beating any Western playoff team in a 7 game series feels like it would be an upset. In a way it would since we'll likely draw a team that's been out of the first round a lot more recently than we have. I'm ready for it and I'm watching with a chip on my shoulder.

I agree with jwilliamson about the narrative of taking out the champs in round 1. The narratives with Dallas and Portland are pretty loaded as well.

There is a thing called matchups in the playoffs. Hope you heard of it. Record means little in regular season.

No,no on Spurs or Portland. Mavs would be the preference and I hope it will be them. The shuffle is from 2-6. I look for Spurs to move up from 6th...meaning we could get Clips or Blazers. Memphis is possible and I too gotta a bad feeling that that bad call is going to come back to haunt us.

Let's look at the 3 losses of the Spurs recent 19 games:

March 12, Spurs Lost to to Cleveland, 128-125 Overtime, Kyrie Irving Score 57.

Mar 17, Spurs Lost to Knicks, 104-100 Overtime - Pops was furious that the Spurs didn't care about playing the Knicks.

Mar 24, Spurs Lost to Dallas - Monta Ellis Scored 38.

So yeah, you are right, the key to beat Spurs is for Harden to score a lot of points, above 30+ points, and Spurs not caring.

The only team I'd rather have Houston avoid in the first round is Memphis, just because they're so physical. A grueling 7-game series could wear out the Rockets too much, and affect their performance in the later rounds.

As for other matchups, each team in the playoffs will have their strengths and weaknesses. And as other posters have noted, you have to beat the best in order to be the best.

I think the Grizzlies have the best chance to beat the warriors. So hopefully they will fall to 4th.

The Grizzlies have defenders a plenty for that backcourt and they have size that not many teams can match up with.
