bad, awful, terrible game. But nobody is arguing that McHale is an X's and O's master. This is the first time i've seen any other "last play of the game" that wasn't "Harden ISO at the 3 point line". It was a cluster*****, but hell, at least he took the cap off the marker this time. McHale and his staff (including the D-League) seem strong in the player development department. Happy to give him credit for DMo and Jones (and hopefully Capela and Johnson too). On the court - we're seeing flashes of the motion offense he wants. Less Harden ISO and more pick and rolls with secondary action and various cuts to the basket. I never thought we'd see that, honestly. yeah i wish we had Pop, or Carlisle or, apparently, Kerr. But i can't think of any unemployed coaches (other than Adelman) that i would feel comfortable handing our Title Contender With a 2 Year Window team over to. i just hope Dwight, Dmo, and Jones come back and lock down the paint on both sides of the ball. because if it comes down to the last possession and Harden's had a rough night - yeesh.
The main thing about McHale to me, other than his absolute inability to make in-game adjustments, is how he doesn't trust anyone other than his Top Six or Top Seven. The second unit was playing pretty well in the second quarter but then he substitutes almost all of them out, bringing back in Ariza and Harden and (I think?) Terry. You could almost see the zeppelin crash in flames: their energy wasn't there, they kept making stupid mistakes (Harden's passing tonight: oy vay). Granted, the team is often McHale-proof. The team's shooting was awful from the field and the stripe. But, again, no imagination and no adjustments. Play Harden and Ariza 38-40 minutes, rinse, cycle, repeat.
Some play chess with checker pieces because their chess pieces are sitting on the sideline in street clothes Rocket River
Toronto coach went iso DeRozen damn near every play down the stretch. Harden played him solid but unfortunately wasn't good enough. We come up with that rebound when Dee missed both free throws, it's a good chance we win this game. Can't blame the coach on that. Great game nontheless.
Harden is having one of the best seasons ever by a Rocket player has a little something to do with this team overcoming odds. Also, the team got a little deeper with the additions of Smith and Brewer. McHale has been mainly been riding the coattails of a deeper, more talented team after the additions of Harden, Dwight, etc. over the past couple of years. I agree. It's just a helpless feeling being a fan of this team with a coach like McHale. Almost have to put a dream team out there. He would probably **** that up too.
Pop finds a way to take those checker pieces and turn them into Knights, Rooks, Bishops and Queens, but that was just Richard Jefferson. Hello, it is for you McHale - Double team is calling. DD
So why he couldn't turn checker pieces into Knights, Rooks, Bishops and Queens these year when the team wasn't healthy?
We can't be too cocky let's talk after the playoffs....I hope we get further than them, but if it comes down to coaching, I think they have the advantage. DD
You can't double with no BIG to protect the Rim, unless you want to allow a wide open 3 or a layup. Where is the double coming from?
Why do people keep saying this it's not true^^ This thread is bumped up by Mchale supporters everytime we win, if you don't believe me read back a couple of pages.
BTW - I don't want fired, but I think he could cost us in the playoffs against a more tactical coach. DD
Are you gonna be the next Rocket's defensive coach. It's real easy to preach from the armchair.... We have a good record against +.500 teams and a good record when it's close so obviously McHale's adjustments and lineups work more often then they don't.
No it's not actually. There are gaps within the posting here and they usually follow a loss is when the McFail brigade comes out behind their rock.
Lol Zone? you want to allow a wide open 3 or an offensive rebound? Where is the double coming from? Cmon man is DeRozan not Michael Jordan even if he was hot. The Raptors made tough lucky ass shoot all night long. Like battier said, if you beat me taking a long contested 2 good for you.
