I know this is the Internet, so maybe it's par for the course, but why all the Llull hate?

Doubters can take a look at his highlights on Youtube and such and, perhaps, backtrack from the edge of the abyss.

Had not read a single one of these reports but before I posted I was thinking of comparing Llull to a young, fast Lowry and Goran and emphasizing that he is very, very fast end-to-end...in the same league speed-wise as Corey Brewer. Gerson and Sam's comments echo my feelings about Llull. He's definitely a rotation player on a championship team.

The league really needs to think hard about a 2nd round pick cap exception. It drives me crazy that a team over the cap has to use both a pick and exception to sign a drafted player.

True. Players should address that in the upcoming CBA discussions.

No clue. He's clearly talented and creative offensively. The YouTube stuff is misleading because it's all circus shots. And he looks like a pesky defender but it's almost impossible to gauge how effective he really is.

no way we are paying this much money, if they actually do, then i expects him to be better than all the PGs on our team, otherwise, why pay him so much without seeing him actually play an nba game?

Would he be allowed to play in the playoffs? Or is this offer for next season?

Didn't we just give Papa midlevel type money for one year? One year's less than three, but we might be confident in Llull. Who knows? These are just rumors.

European PGs don't really transition well into NBA life. (My personal assumption )

I think there's a way to make it work for everyone. Here's my idea:

Create a rookie scale for 2nd round picks.

    Teams have 3 options:

    1) Sign the player, and add them to the roster.
    2) Sign the player, and assign them to the team's D-League affiliate for a full year. The team gets a roster exception, and the player's salary does not count against the cap for that year. The player cannot play in a pro game, but can practice with their pro team.
    3) If an international player, have them sign a letter stating they will not come to the NBA for the season (similar to how international 1st round picks are handled). Then create a "bird rights" type system. For every year the player stays overseas, the team gains additional salary flexibility to sign their player. For example:

    Year Drafted - Rookie Scale
After Year 1 - Non-bird rights. 120% of rookie scale
After Year 2 - Early-bird rights. 175% of rookie scale
After Year 3 - Full bird rights. Sign to any amount

This system would do 4 things:

    1) It would give 2nd round picks guaranteed salary
    2) preserve teams roster flexibility
    3) grow the D-League
    4) facilitate more international players coming over

I don't see a downside. The euro leagues wouldn't like it because they would likely become a feeder for the NBA, but who cares?

I would generally agree, but with harden there isn't nearly as much of a responsibility. That's why I personally think this is the best spot for him by a large margin.

Tony Parker being the exception, I guess.

Ricky Rubio may yet come into his own.

Llull would be our Lin-who-doesn't-suck, I would think. Not always primary ball handler but won't dribble into the teeth of the defense nor dribble off his foot.

I'm not sure if any one else listened, but DM was just on MaD Radio and confirmed that the 17/3yr contract offer is not true.

Just coming in to saw aelliott's posts in this thread are awesome!

I really look forward to Lull joining the Rockets. Seems like we are headed that way. No problem using the MLE on Lull. The key will just be figuring out a way to keep KJ.

Josh Smith will have to take the minimum+ 120% pay raise, take it or leave it. (plus getting paid by Detroit).
Rockets have Brewer's early bird rights so he can be kept.
Wouldn't be surprised if JT is back at Vet minimum for vet leadership.

If we won a championship, I can see a movie would be made about Morey, and Barkley would be in it. Who will play Morey?
