why does it matter so much who's better than someone. I think we can all agree that Harden, Ariza, DMo played huge roles up to the trade and then Brewer and Smith added to that. Jones was great when he played but he did so in only not many games. So whether DMo is the X-factor or not, he was inarguably one of the most valuable players to Rockets success this season.
What categories? Scoring: Jones 12.4, DMo 12.0 virtually equal 2pt %: Jones .546, DMo .536 Jones slightly better 3pt %: Jones .321, DMo .368 DMo much better TS%: Jones .560, DMo .553 virtually equal FT%: Jones .635, DMo .602 Jones slightly better Reb: Jones 7.3, DMo 5.9 Jones much better Assists: Jones 0.8, DMo 1.8 DMo much better Steals: Jones 0.6, DMo 0.8 virtual equal Blocks: Jones 1.6, DMo 0.5 Jones much better TOV: Jones 1.0, DMo 1.7 Jones slightly better There are 2 categories where Jones is much better, 3 slightly better. There are 2 categories where Motiejunas is much better.
And some can argue with a healthy T. Jones we could have won an additional 3-5 games. Simple game huh. Lol
except you don't know that. no one knows that. rockets won as many games as they did with DMo and I feel like the record is good enough, considering the injuries, that people would stop trashing on players?
Our interior defense and rebounding were terrible with DMo at center. Trying to credit DMo for those wins is quite the stretch. Dwight is absolutely huge for us.
Yeah, let's take credit away from Harden, Jones, Brewer and Ariza stepping up individually and give it to DMo. DMo is not playing out of position on offense at all. McHale went to a two PF system. Arguably he's playing out of position on defense, but quite frankly, the PF position is the tougher one to defend in the West...so....uh ppl who always posts with agendas and reinvent history like that to prop up their fav player and tear down another are the cancer of cfnet. And as he said, "All of that should be pretty obvious to basketball fans." So transparent.
Imagine if Bobbythegreat was the next man up at center. Or maybe we could have had Tarik Black and he would have at least not been embarrassed. Seriously, who cares? You want to give the guy a medal because some other guy may have sucked worse?
Exactly nobody knows but we still try to make our assumption as facts. Both Jones and Dmo has been solid for us.
TJones has actually been pretty good defensively over those 25 games. I'm talking Draymond Green type of good.
Whoa, no he has not. He has been solid and has taken a quantum leap over the joke he was last season. But Green is super elite defensively. Jones has been good, and it was an extremely small sample.
What about comparing their defence at the 4? I know you don't really understand how this works, but if both players have played a certain position, then it is perfectly valid to compare their bodies of work at said position. Is par for your course 398476382?
So did DMo at center, and he got less than 1 rebound per quarter. Remember when you said he was an elite rim protector?
D-mo has been slightly better defensively at the 4 this year, although it has been close. But D-mo has spent 80% of his minutes defending and rebounding against centers, and he hasn't been great.
I would say 5 out of 7 qualifies for "almost." There are other stats to look at as well. Such as the fact that the Rockets ORtg and DRtg is 2.4 and 2.3 points better, rspectively, with Jones on the floor. For DMo, our ORtg is only 0.6 points better with him on the floor, and our DRtg is 2.3 points worse when he is on the floor. I could list more examples but you get the point. And Bobbythegreat, I actually agree with some of your points. Although we haven't seen it, I'd imagine that DMo at C > Jones at C. However that does not necessarily mean that DMo at PF > Jones at PF. Subtracting DMo and adding Jones for the time Jones was out doesn't necessarily make our team worse, there is no way to know that. But to act like Jones doesn't contribute to wins is ridiculous, he has 2.4 win shares this season in 25 games, and DMo has 4.8 in 71 games.
Defensive rebound? DMo doesn't have most centers strength, so he is focusing on preventing opponent C from getting one. I remember very well last road game against Clips, DMo was wrestling with Deandre all game long, Deandre clearly was loosing his cool. That euro trash just didn't back down. So, if DMo boxes out his man, is it good, or most of guys evaluate player by boxscore instead of actual performance and contribution. Along side serious C, DMo could be unstoppable on offense(slight chance, but things he does now - not many 7feet PF can do). I just want Rockets to get as healthy as possible and win the West.
