He won't last past six, and most likely two. No way we can trade up for him, minus a buttload of picks and someone like Foster.

I don't think Mariota is going to be a franchise type guy anyways. I think he'll always be in the vein of a Kaepernick-type.

Yeah, not only would it be way too much to get him...but if the Texans see Mariota as being that valuable, then that scares me because I dont see Mariota as much more than an average NFL QB. The dude definitely has good work ethic and is a great athlete, but he's largely a product of the system he played in. Do not want.

So, they are willing to trade for a veteran elite QB? So, it could Brees or Rivers afterall?

Both of those QBs are in play...is it probable? Probably not...but I would definitely say that if the Texans want it enough, one of those guys could be theirs.

I think Rivers should be the guy. Only 33...with a 17 million dollar cap hit.

Sign him to a 5 year deal where his cap hit is ~20 million per and structure it such that 100% of his guarantees are paid off within the first 4 years of the deal, giving the team flexibility during the final year of his contract, as he heads into the season on the verge of turning 38.

Brees seems like the more realistic option, seeing as how they have blown that team up. New Orleans may be more willing to listen to offers.

I'm wondering, would AJ restructered his contract if he know we could have a shot at Brees or Rivers?

Don't know but won't he be pissed if we do get one of them. I can see Brees only having a couple good years left wanting to come here and win.

I've said before I would like Rivers if a trade was possible. They could go all in pretty much and trade draft picks from this year so they don't have to worry about paying those guys. Would still be nice to get one of those top receivers in the first round tho.

ESPN offseason grades. I'll post the insider article if people really care about the other grades:

    Houston Texans

    Grade: C-plus

Key re-signings/additions: QB Brian Hoyer, QB Ryan Mallett, S Rahim Moore, WR Cecil Shorts III, DT Vince Wilfork, ILB Akeem Dent, CB Kareem Jackson

Key subtractions: WR Andre Johnson, OLB Brooks Reed, C Chris Myers, G Cody White, WR Damaris Johnson, S Danieal Manning, DT Jerrell Powe, S Kendrick Lewis, DT Ryan Pickett, QB Thad Lewis, DE Tim Jamison, QB Case Keenum, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick

The Texans paid a premium to keep Jackson, but such was the market for cornerbacks. Williamson said he could justify giving Houston a higher grade. I felt as though the quarterback maneuvering made sense (signing Hoyer and keeping Mallett), without necessarily making the Texans any better.

"I really like the Wilfork signing, and while Shorts will never be Andre Johnson, he is an OK risk to take if he stays healthy and they draft someone," Williamson said. "Rahim Moore was someone who, along with Wilfork, helps them up the middle. Quarterback was a huge issue, but who were they going to get? They at least took a chance taking two of them and hoping one is serviceable."

That's a pretty low grade given that we didn't really lose anything of value and we improved the team.

It's getting to the point where I will only trust PFF for NFL analysis.

Why did they list D.Johnson as a subtraction and he resigned with the team??

hah, yeah. if they are going to mention subtractions of fitz and keenum, they should at least mention draft picks acquired. I do think that analysis is sub par, and that we should at least have a B- grade. At least.

Yeah I had seen a grading of a B+ elsewhere, ESPN is a joke.
